Outline The Commentary In the different books of the Bible one finds many allusions to passages that occur

in other biblical books or sometimes allusions to passages within the book itself. The different features of these allusions are so-called inner-biblical exegesis. Scribes did reinterpret, reuse and adapt older passages and wrote sometimes pseudo-prophecies. In that way they wrote commentaries on their own traditions. One of the aspects of inner-biblical exegesis is the interpretation of oracles. In my paper I will focus on the interpretation and the reinterpretation of oracles. Why would one reinterpretate oracles and what is the influence of emerging eschatological thought in those processes? Are there any specific features of mantological (i.e. regarding to oracles) exegesis? Research focus: In what way and why were oracles (re)interpret and reused? What is the influence of emerging apocalyptic views on these new interpretations (especially in Daniel 7-12)? Part 1: Inner-biblical exegesis How to determine what inner-biblical exegesis is? Why is inner-biblical exegesis a kind of commentary? What are the features of inner-biblical exegesis? o Especially mantological exegesis. Oracles and the authorative status of the texts What is the status of an oracle and its prophesier? Which problems faces one if oracles dont come true? Why would one reinterpret the prophecy or oracle? Can oracles be fulfilled twice in different social settings? Part 2: Mantological exegesis in Daniel (7-12) Which oracles were reinterpret and reused in Daniel (7-12)? (predominantly Jeremiah) o In which context did the prophecies appear for the first time? What is the amount of time between the attestation of the prophecy and its fulfilment? o How were the oracles and prophecies interpret since they had been spoken? o In what way were the oracles changed? Did the meaning change as well? (methodology of mantological exegesis) o Why were the oracles changed? How do changing ideas about laws and eschatology changes the way oracles are interpret? Part 3: Non-biblical mantological exegesis I would like to investigate the possibility that the Sibylline oracles were reinterpret-oracles as well during the declination of the Roman Empire (it might be under influence of emerging eschatological thought) and I would like to compare the way this was done with the mantological exegesis in Daniel (7-12). The only problem is that I still dont know whether the Sibylline oracles were reinterpret or invented and how I will discover this is what they exactly were. If they are not a reinterpretation I will have to write about something elseif that is the case I might compare it with the exegesis of laws (innerbiblical).
