Organization of content

10

Collecting, sequencing and editing Good editing depends most on two things: - a clear idea of the communication goals of the content - empathy for the reader First move: Put everything you have in the document Second move: Sequence the content using a common organization device, such as scale or time Third move: Consolidate materials to clarify as needed. Be ruthless. A book is only as good as it weakest image. Fourth move: Always check for spelling and double words. Worth noting: Whats first and last matters most, consider this in both macro and micro organization of content

11

Structuring content LATCH is an acronym that represents five basic strategies to organize information. Location maps, travel books Alphabetical dictionaries or encyclopedias Time timelines, calendars, recipes or other instruction types Category periodic tables, color, or in architecture we might use typology, ie libraries, theatres, gas stations Hierarchy top ten lists, evolutionary charts
