HCA Midwest, CareSpot to
Establish Urgent Care Centers
researchmedicalcenter.blogspot.com
HCA Midwest Health System and CareSpot have
established a joint venture to bring as many as six
urgent care centers to the Greater Kansas City area
starting in early 2013 and continuing throughout the
year. The new partnership would make CareSpot and
HCA Midwest the leading urgent care provider in the
area.

CONVENIENT, HIGH-QUALITY HEALTHCARE
Urgent care is an important aspect of HCA Midwest Health Systems vision to provide
our community with a quality, comprehensive health system, says M.L. Lagarde, president
of HCA MidAmerica Division. Our expertise as a health network can best bridge the
continuum of care between urgent, primary and acute care. Our partner, CareSpot, has a
proven track record of delivering a highly convenient, less expensive alternative to emergency
room visits for non-emergency injuries and illnesses. Our partnership represents a signicant
step forward in bringing increased access to extraordinary and affordable healthcare in the
communities that we serve.

Our joint venture with HCA Midwest is an exciting opportunity to partner with a well-
known, high-quality healthcare provider in the Kansas City area, expand our base beyond
Florida and Tennessee, and move into other markets where there is strong demand for urgent
care centers, says CareSpot CEO Michael D. Klein. Customers want more convenient,
high-quality healthcare, and thats what well deliver. Online and mobile scheduling tools at
CareSpot.com allow customers to book appointments, compare center wait times, and even
save a spot in line this helps them easily get in and out so they can start feeling better
quickly.

The new urgent care centers will offer healthcare services to treat non-emergent medical
problems that can develop unexpectedly and require immediate attention, lling the gap
between primary care physicians and hospital emergency rooms. This partnership offers
patients the stafng benets and expertise of a proven network of urgent care centers
combined with the broader resources of a large hospital system if a higher level of care is
required. The new centers will operate as CareSpot in partnership with HCA Midwest Health
System. CareSpot will manage daily operations.

College Park Family Care Center recently announced that
it has signed an agreement to join HCA Midwest Health
System and Midwest Physicians. Midwest Physicians
is the metrowide, multispecialty physician practice of
HCA Midwest Health System. College Park Family Care
has been closely aligned with Overland Park Regional
Medical Center, also part of HCA Midwest Health System,
for several years. This expanded physician organization
comprises more than 341 physicians in 146 locations in
the Greater Kansas City area.
Since 1980, College Park Family Care has provided
compassionate, family-centered care to individuals and
families in Johnson County, Kansas. College Park Family
Care is one of the largest, most comprehensive groups of
primary care physicians and specialty care physicians with
60 physicians in 10 locations throughout the county.
The decision to pursue an afliation with a strong
partner such as Midwest Physicians and HCA Midwest
Health System has been led in part by our need to navigate
upcoming healthcare changes, says Thomas G. Miller,
MD, College Park Family Care co-founder and chief
executive ofcer. Members of the College Park Family
Care board feel this is a positive development for all
physicians and staff at College Park and will assure that we
continue to thrive and meet our mission. We have enjoyed
our long-time relationship with Overland Park Regional
Medical Center (OPRMC) and Midwest Physicians, and
we are looking forward to expanding our relationship with
both organizations.
The agreement between College Park Family Care and
Midwest Physicians represents the largest physician group
afliation in the Kansas City area to date as well as the
second largest group to afliate within HCAs Physician
Services. It is anticipated that there will be no changes in
management or stafng within College Park Family Care
as a result of the afliation, and all physicians, mid-level
providers and ofce staff will continue in their current
roles.
The agreement ensures:
preservation of College Park Family Cares name and
identity
continued funding of College Parks medical missions
increased access to funds for clinic expansion and
maintenance
enhanced and expanded IT&S support including
electronic medical record technology and
telecommunications
continued physician governance through the formation
of a College Park Management Council including
representation from four College Park physicians and four
representations from HCA Midwest Health System as
well as the appointment of a College Park physician to the
HCA Midwest Physician Executive Council.
College Park Family Care has been
a valued partner to Overland Park
Regional Medical Center, our medical
staff and to this community for
decades, says Damond Boatwright,
OPRMC chief executive ofcer.
As OPRMC embarks on a historic
$110 million hospital expansion, the
agreement with College Park Family
Care allows us to enhance our ability to provide quality,
accessible healthcare to our community.
We are thrilled that the board of
directors of this group of highly
regarded physicians has chosen to
align with us, says Loren Meyer, MD,
Midwest Physicians president. We are
committed to ensuring the continued
mission, culture and values that make
College Park Family Care unique to
their patients and the communities
they serve.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for the protection of the data
whether the data is in email, on your laptop, or on a
removable media device such as a thumbdrive or USB.
Any time data is lost, it puts our patients (or you) at
risk of fraud, identity theft, and loss of privacy.
ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS
Do I send emails that contain sensitive data outside
the company for business purposes?
Do I save sensitive data to my laptop and take my
laptop home with me or on business trips?
Do I save sensitive data to thumbdrives, USBs, CDs,
DVDs, or other forms of media for business purposes?
Do I mail or ship removable media to others for business
purposes?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for the protection of the data.
Any time data is lost, it puts our patients (or you) at risk
of fraud, identity theft, and loss of privacy. It can also
result in bad publicity for HCA, and cost us hundreds of
thousands of dollars. Regulations like HIPAA and PCI also
require you to protect certain data.
Read below to nd out what you need to do to protect
senstive data in emails, on your laptop, and on removable
media.
EMAIL
To encrypt an email, simply place <encrypt> somewhere
in the Subject line of the email. You can also use (encrypt),
{encrypt}, or [encrypt].
Important Notes about Email Encryption
This only works with email messages going to
recipients outside of the HCA email environment. You
are not required to encrypt emails to recipients with
HCA-provided emails.
The Subject line of the email is not encrypted. Do
not put sensitive information in the Subject line.
Attachments are automatically encrypted and
require no additional steps.
LAPTOP
To conrm that encryption is installed and working on
your company-owned laptop or desktop, follow the steps
in the Information Security Procedure: Verify Your Laptop
is Encrypted document on Atlas. Laptops should be
encrypted by your local IT Support Staff.
Important Notes about Laptop Encryption
The document above also provides next steps if you
nd that encryption is missing or not working properly
on your laptop.
If you plan to travel with your laptop, contact
your FISO or local IT Department to learn more about
protecting sensitive data and your laptop.
REMOVABLE MEDIA
(THUMBDRIVES, USBS, CDS, DVDS)
To encrypt removable media, contact your FISO or local
IT Help Desk. They can help determine the appropriate
encryption options for you and your situation.
Important Notes about Encryption on Removable Media
If you are sending the removable media to someone
else, contact the recipient via phone to provide the
recipient with the encryption key or password.
Another option is to send an encrypted email with this
information. Never include the encryption key with the
encrypted le(s)!
If you plan to mail or courier the media outside
of your facility, be sure to use a service that tracks the
package and requires signature upon receipt.
It is very easy to misplace or steal a removable
media device. Even if you expect to keep the disk at your
desk, make sure the sensitive data le is encrypted.
QUESTIONS
If you have questions about your role in protecting
sensitive data, contact your FISO, DISO, or local IT Help
Desk. There is no such thing as a dumb question when
it comes to protecting the information of our patients,
employees, and our company.
