Butterfly Life Cycle True False and Short Answer Assessments First Grade

I created these assessments with the standards, understandings, and learning targets in mind. The standards that were covered include: L.OL.01.21 Describe the life cycle of animals including the following stages: egg, young, adult; egg, larva, pupa, adult. L.OL.01.13 Identify the needs of animals L.HE.01.11 Identify characteristics (for example: body coverings, beak shape, number of legs, body parts) that are passed on from parents to young.

The unit understandings that are covered are: The sequence of the life cycle stages of butterflies The life cycle: birth, growth, reproduction, death Changes that take place as butterflies grow from birth to adult Offspring are very much (but not exactly) like their parents

The unit learning targets that are covered are: The student will explain the process of a butterflys lifecycle Short Answer Assessment This assessment is to cover information learned through days 5-8 of the life cycle unit. During this time period students have learned about the caterpillar stage of the lifecycle and the short answer assessments will be used as summative assessments to gather data regarding what the students have learned from these lessons. As with all assessments given to my first grade students, I will have to read the assessment to them to ensure complete understanding of both directions and questions.

Short Answer Assessment:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

True/False Assessment The True/False assessment will be given after day 13. The butterfly should be emerging from the chrysalis at this point. The true/false assessment will cover information learned during the lesson(s) regarding the last stage of the life cycle; the adult butterfly. Again, I am assessing my students understanding of the last of the stages of the life cycle. From these assessments I can create the final assessment of the unit using information learned throughout the entire unit. True/False Assessment 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. The butterfly emerges from a chrysalis ___________ The butterfly cant fly when they first emerge_____________ Butterflies eat nectar_____________ Butterflies have four legs______________ The butterfly eats using a body part called the antenna____________ The adult butterfly lays eggs on leaves_____________ The lifecycle of a butterfly is also called metamorphosis_____________ There are four stages in the butterfly lifecycle____________
