Australia is known for many of animals, famous events, outlaws, natural habitat and the gold rush.

Today I will be talking about the hardship of being a digger and searching for gold. As this was a time for many famous events such as the Eureka stockade, Ned Kelly and his gang and as Australia was still being colonized. The gold fields was a playground for crime, as there were murders, thievery, break in and many other unlawful things. Life on the goldfield was hard because there were not many people who had enough food and would starve to death. Some would have to give up their day to day job as they were not paid enough and wanted to be rich. Others would not find or find little amounts of gold. This is why the gold fields were hard. The first reason why the gold fields were so hard was because of the crime spree. As outlaws flourished all over victoria. Outlaws would steal from the workers who would have worked and mined hard for their eared gold. There were many other miners that would steal from each other; some would also kill another to fight over the gold. Some were put under arrest for crimes they did not commit. The police force in Ballarat during the gold rush was not as good as it is now, as corruption and the number of police on duty played a major role in why the government was to be blamed on why the gold field was so hard. The second reason is the amount of food most diggers had were either poisonous or that there wasnt enough. There would be pubs around at that time but the diggers would have to spend their gold that they found and spend it at the pub. Most Europeans didnt think to grow and farm animals as the Chinese did, but the Europeans were jealous and killed the Chinese men who hid their gold from thieves like them. A number of diggers who couldnt afford food or drinks at the pub would starve to death; they would avoid this by stealing from other diggers. My final reason is that over time as more gold was being found and spent, less and less gold was found as large chunks of gold were almost impossible to find while small or medium amounts of gold were very hard to find. Diggers would have to also pay a license fee which can deduct their findings to zero. Diggers who did not pay for the license were not allowed to mine. People who are court mining without a license will be arrested. The license fee was brought to a minimal fee but this did not stop the miners from resisting to pay the fee which eventually led the police to in force the law. In conclusion I think that the gold rush in Ballarat, Australia was hard because of these many conditions such as crime, food and drink resource, the license fee. As of today many people around the world come to Ballarat to learn about the hardship of being a miner was.
