Chapter5:AUTOMATIC DIRECTION FINDING SYSTEM (DFS-43A)

Introduction: This is a microprocessor based automatic direction finder system to provide bearing information to a selected ground station in low & medium AM bands(190-1860 KHz).The main purpose of the system is to indicate the direction of arrival of electromagnetic wave from the selected NDB station. It provides the numerical & visual display of bearing to the selected NDB station. 2.System Description ADF DFS43A System is interfaced with IADS for controls and data display. NDB station frequency is selected on the SYSTEM page 3 of CDS where bearing is also displayed in numeral form .The visual indication of the bearing pointer (RMI pointer) is displayed on the PFD page of MFD. It consists of the following system components: 1)ADF receiver, 2)Loop/sense antenna. --The receiver is located on the RH side behind station 7. The antenna is installed on the bottom fuselage, centre line behind station 6. ADF ON/OFF switch is located in the overhead panel. --The receiver operates in the medium frequency of 190-1860 kHz (with a channel spacing of 0.5 kHz) and also at 2182 kHz marine frequency. --The signals are received through the loop/sense antenna and the bearing of the radio station is indicated on MFD. Audio code of selected ground station is channeled through intercom system.
