PotentialsourcesofvirusesincludesharedmediasuchasfloppydisksorCDROMs,electronic mail(including,butnotlimitedto,filesattachedtomessages),andsoftwareordocuments copiedovernetworkssuchasthecampusnetworkandtheInternet.

TARGETAUDIENCE TheNSUAntiVirusPolicyappliestoallNSUfaculties,staff,studentsandguestswhoutilizethe networkandotherinformationtechnologyresourcesownedand/oroperatedbyNSU. POLICY NETServicesResponsibilities

    ToprovideantiviruslicensesforallpcsandmacsownedandoperatedbyNSU. Studentsarealsoprovidedlicensesforpersonalmachineswhileenrolledat NSU. o Toinstallantivirussoftwareonallbasiccomputerimagesforfaculty,staffand computerlabmachines. o Tokeeptheantivirusproductsuptodatethroughacentralizedpolicy managementthatallowsforautomaticdeploymentofnewvirusdefinitions. o Totakeappropriateactiontocontainvirusinfectionsandassistintheirremoval. Assuch,NETServicesretainstherighttoremoveasuspectcomputerfromthe networkordisconnectasegmentofthenetworktopreventthespreadofa virusorcontaindamagebeingdonebyavirus. o Todisseminateinformationongeneralvirusprotection,includinginformation onvirushoaxes. o Toassistusersintherecoveryfromavirusattack,includingadviceon containmenttostopthespreadandassistancewithvirusremoval. o Tomaintaindocumentationonvirusincidents,includingpreventionof recurrence. o Tomaintainknowledgeandexpertiseonvirusesandvirusprotectionthrough routinestafftraining,awarenessandaccesstoresources. o Toperformperiodicsweepsofserversystemfilesandstaff/studentfilestores andconductrealtimescanningonallfileandwebservers. o Toprovidescanmailprotectionforfacultyandstudentemailbyscanning incomingmailbeforeitisdelivered,cleaninganddeletinginfectedattachments, andblockingpotentiallyharmfulfileswithcertainfileextensions.
