General
Q: is niCe Sentinel a standalone product or part of the niCe Perform Suite? A: NICE Sentinel is part of the NICE Perform Suite and included in every new NICE Perform installation. Q: What are the main differences between niCe Sentinel Release 1.0 and Release 2.1? A: In Release 2.1 , NICE Sentinel offers the following benefits: SQL 2008 Server Standard Edition embedded as part of the setup 64-bit operating system support High availability Support for large scale NICE Perform deployments Logger Channel Utilization reports Recommended Actions in Alarms window Alarm forwarding to third-party network management systems Customer-provided SMTP support Storage Rules Validator tests SRT and LC as part of the installation Q: What does niCe Sentinel monitor? A: NICE Sentinel monitors all NICE Perform system components, such as TDM/VoIP Loggers, the Database Server and the Interactions Center. Q: is niCe Sentinel installed on a separate server? A: Yes. NICE Sentinel is installed on a separate server for accurate and independent monitoring. In addition, thirdparty software components cannot be installed on the NICE Sentinel server without prior permission from NICE. Q: is it possible to use niCe Sentinel alongside a central monitoring solution (e.g., HP network node Manager, Ca Unicenter, iBM tivoli)? A: Yes. NICE Sentinel monitors NICE Perform components and can operate in conjunction with the central network management system in the enterprise. Since alarm forwarding to a centralized network management system is part of the version, full alarms can be viewed in systems outside the NICE Sentinel as well. In addition, NICE provides the relevant MIB files, which are standard SNMP definition files. The customer can load these MIB files into an SNMP-based system and configure the traps required to be received or filtered.

Q: Can information be sent to niCe Sentinel from a third-party monitoring system? A: No, NICE Sentinel only sends outbound alarms from NICE Perform and does not receive information from third-party monitoring systems. Q: How many niCe Perform devices can a single niCe Sentinel monitor? A: A single NICE Sentinel server can monitor up to 200 NICE Perform devices. Q: is it possible to connect multiple users to niCe Sentinel? A: Yes. NICE Sentinel supports multiple connections and up to 5 concurrent connections within the basic package. If required, a package of 20 concurrent connections can be purchased. Q: does niCe Sentinel support niCe Perform eXpress? A: Not yet. NICE Perform eXpress support is planned for the next NICE Sentinel release (Release 2.5). Q: Can niCe Sentinel Release 1.0 be upgraded to niCe Sentinel Release 2.1? A: Yes. The NICE Sentinel Release 2.1 installation package includes an upgrade from NICE Sentinel Release 1.0, while preserving the current data. Q: Can niCe Sentinel Release 2.1 be installed in a virtualized environment? A: Yes. NICE Sentinel Release 2.1 fully supports VMware ESX (including VMotion) and Microsoft Hyper-V (including Live Migration). Q: What is the Configuration Center? A: The Configuration Center is a central location for configuring all available parameters in NICE Sentinel. It simplifies some of the configuration flows in NICE Sentinel which require the user to navigate between several different forms.

Data Gathering
Q: Which data sources and protocols does niCe Sentinel use? A: NICE Sentinel gathers information via SNMP traps, WMI data polling, database queries, ICMP and NICE Perform APIs. Q: does the data polling affect the system performance? A: No. SNMP traps have little effect on the system. Other data is polled periodically and does not affect the systems performance at all. Q: What are niCe Sentinels minimal network requirements? A: The latency between NICE Sentinel and the monitored elements should be under 50ms. The bandwidth should be as follows: For SMBs and unified architectures 0.4 Mbps of bandwidth is required For distributed architectures 0.15 Mbps of bandwidth per server is required

Q: Is there a MIB file I can use to monitor NICE Perform with my centralized monitoring system? A: Yes. NICE Perform MIBs are available and can be used with a centralized monitoring system. Starting with NICE Sentinel Release 2.5, only NICE Sentinel MIBs will be available, which will provide information from the NICE Sentinel northbound.

Scalability and Performance

Q: Can niCe Sentinel monitor more than one data hub? A: Yes. NICE Sentinel can monitor multi data hub environments in a linked and unlinked configuration. Q: How many niCe Perform Servers can a single instance of niCe Sentinel monitor? A: NICE Sentinel Release 2.1 can monitor up to 200 NICE Perform servers in any configuration. Refer to the Certified Servers Guide (CSG) for more information. Q: Which servers and operating systems does niCe

Alarms, Notifications and Forwarding

Q: Are the alarms predefined or can they be user-defined? A: NICE Sentinel incorporates a comprehensive set of predefined alarms. The user can also set thresholds and define new alarms. Q: to where are the alarms sent? A: Alarms are displayed in NICE Sentinel and can be sent to the user/administrator via email notifications. Q: if i have a multi data hub environment with different niCe Perform versions (e.g., Releases 3.1 and 3.2), do i need niCe Sentinel for each hub? A: No. A single instance of NICE Sentinel can monitor different NICE Perform releases (Release 3.1 and higher). Q: Can i suppress alarms in advance? A: Yes. In the Configuration Center, you can view all available alarms in the Ignore Alarms area. By removing the checkmark, the alarm is suppressed and will not be displayed.

Sentinel support? A: Refer to the Certified Servers Guide (CSG) for the updated list. Q: Can customers install third-party applications on the niCe Sentinel server? A: For the list of permissible software, refer to the Third-Party Software Validation team site at http://niceweb.nice.com/ teams/eiSProductManagementinfrastructure_MKtG/ oSV/lists/3rd%20party/allitems.aspx
