ETHICS in PHYSICAL THERAPY

FORMAT FOR JOURNAL CRITIQUE Write an essay about the content of the scholarly journal article in detail. This part of your critique must demonstrate that you read the entire article and not just the abstract. Refer to the guide questions given below. Although you must address all of these questions in your essay, be sure to write a cohesive response in actual essay format (and not a Q & A format). Your essay should also include an introduction and a conclusion. Each student must locate his/her own scholarly journal article as stipulated in the class policy and explained during the class orientation. Written report should be typed written using the following specifications for uniformity: o Font: Times New Roman o Size: 12 o Space: Single o Paper: Short bond paper Submit the title page, followed by the 4-5 or more pages write-up both attached to a clean copy of the original article. An e-copy of the journal/article and the written report should also be submitted together with the hard copy. Format of Report: a. Title Page b. Specifics of the Journal/Article o Author o Title o Source o Year Published c. Introduction (brief synopsis of what the article was about) d. Body (R, E, A, D) e. Conclusions and Recommendations (E, R)

READER Critical Reading (Guide Questions) R (Relevance), E (Education), A (Applicability), D (Discrimination), E (Evaluation), and R (Reaction) R (Relevance) 1. What is the article about? 2. Does the article deal with the practice of Physical Therapy specifically ethics in physical therapy practice? 3. What method/s did the author use to investigate the topic? Was/Were the appropriate method/s used?

4. What are the results of the study? 5. What are the relevances of the study to the practice of Physical Therapy? E (Education) 1. Was the study/journal able to change your behaviour/opinion/belief in the topic presented? State how and why.

A (Applicability) 1. Can the reported research be done in the reader's practice? 2. Do you think you can you use the result of study in your future practice as a PT? Why?

D (Discrimination) 1. Do you think the message/s being presented by the author/s is/are valid? Could it change your belief and behaviour as a future PT practitioner? Can it be applied to your future practice as PT? Do you think the methods for data gathering are valid and reliable? Justify your answer.

E (Evaluation) 1. Is the journal article relevant to the practice of PT? Explain. 2. Are the circumstances described in the journal/article relevant to the style of practice, facilities, situation, location, and what you will do as a PT? 3. Who will benefit from reading this article? 4. What will the benefits be? 5. How important and extensive is that benefit? 6. Would you recommend it for reading by other PTs? Why? 7. What is the impact of the journal article to the practice of Physical Therapy?

R (Reaction) . 1. What have you learned personally from the journal/article? 2. Would you use whatever you have learned from the journal/article when you will practice the profession? Why? 3. Do you agree or disagree with the conclusion/s of the author/s? 4. Can the research be improved? Why and How?
