Dyfed-Powys Police selects Civica to provide hosted Automatic Number Plate Recognition technologies Extended 5-year contract to cut

15th January 2013, London: Dyfed-Powys Police has signed a five-year contract with Civica, a market leader in specialist systems and business process services that help organisations transform the way they work. The new agreement, which builds upon an existing relationship between the two organisations, will see Dyfed-Powys Police implement Civicas new hosted re-deployable Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) solution to cut crime, costs and improve internal ICT security. The agreement will see the force go from a mixture of 34 traditional static cameras to 50 traditional and hosted ANPR sites, along with additional in-car cameras. Dyfed-Powys Police safeguards an area over half the size of Wales, with a population of over 488,000 that is significantly boosted by tourists each year. By increasing its ANPR investment the force will be better able to monitor and investigate criminal and suspicious activity. The introduction of Civicas hosted re-deployable ANPR will significantly reduce the forces capital expenditure and ongoing maintenance costs of the ICT infrastructure required to support a static ANPR project. Dyfed-Powys Police selected Civica as a result of further competition through the Government Procurement Service (GPS) Traffic Management Technology procurement framework. Civicas blue light services business works with 90% of UK police forces, delivering software and services that help to bring about safer streets and communities together with greater efficiency, underpinned by leading expertise in secure data communications and mobile working. The organisation will be using Civicas hosted re-deployable ANPR solution, which enables rapid deployment of cameras to support strategic operations or if a critical fixed camera location is out of service due to either communications or equipment failure. The technology will be used to provide permanent ANPR coverage on routes of particular interest where hardwired communications infrastructure is unavailable or would be costly to provide. By hosting the solution at Civica data centres, the force benefits from low risk and a highly resilient ICT infrastructure incorporating secure private network between the deployed cameras and Dyfed-Powys ANPR back-office facility. It also provides data to NAAS standard and taps into all of the major 3G networks to ensure the fastest possible speeds and constant wireless coverage.
