ArEsts Statement
My body of artwork is a representaEon of myself in through dierent spectrums. Having chosen the big idea of "IdenEty", I set out to learn more about myself, and the world I live in through my InternaEonal Baccalaureate Visual Arts program at the American InternaEonal School of Kingston. Throughout my life I have been faced with numerous obstacles, experiences and circumstances that have all contributed to my outlook on life and who I am today. These factors all include my surroundings, my country, Jamaica, the people who I have grown up with, who I aspire to be, as well as coming of age problems I have faced as a young man. I have used my art and photography to channel those outlooks - some being posiEve, some being negaEve. Before starEng the program, I focused solely on Fashion Photography. However, I have now developed into creaEng works of photography that are based on conceptual ideas and are sEll represented through my visual style. Throughout my two years, Annie Leibovitz and Alex Stoddard have inuenced my works, specically in photography. My style of photography has certainly inuenced my style of painEng, drawing, and mixed media, which were completely new concepts to me upon entering this program. I enjoy working in a very modern, yet realisEc style through these mediums. My inspiraEons in these other medias have developed from contemporary arEsts such as Andy Warhol and Anne Bagby. Being exposed to art, not only through the Internet, but through books, interviews, and exhibiEons have given me the appreciaEon I need to be passionate about my artwork - For example, the Barrington Watson exhibiEon, which gave me inspiraEon for my series of portraits based on Jamaican history. Though it may feel like the end, my journey has only just begun.
