Rufus Norris is a theatre and opera director whose West End and Broadway shows include Cabaret, Don Giovanni, Festen, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and Vernon God Little. Damon Albarn is a musician whose bands and projects include Blur, Gorillaz, The Good the Bad and the Queen, Africa Express, and Monkey: Journey to the West. Dr Dee is 18 tracks of songs and music inspired by the life of John Dee, mathematician, polymath, and advisor to Elizabeth I. Described by Albarn as strange pastoral folk, Dr Dee is a fitting companion to the end of another Elizabethan age. The album combines Albarns voice with early English choral and instrumentation alongside modern, West African and Renaissance sounds. Dr Dee was recorded late last year in Albarns West London studio and also in Salford with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was mixed by Valgeir Sigursson in Reykjavik.

Soulsavers is the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover. THE LIGHT THE DEAD SEE is the bands fourth studio album, but the first to feature vocals from Dave Gahan, frontman of Depeche Mode. The first two Soulsavers album featured vocals from Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. The two parties met in 2009 when Soulsavers opened for Depeche Mode during their vast Tour of The Universe, and immediately warmed to each other - Dave started writing and recorded his own vocals in New York, then Machin built up the results into fully-formed arranged epics. Till the Wheels Fall Off aint just an album title. Its a way of life. And the Outlaw Carnie responsible for it aint no character. Bob Wayne is 100% the real deal: a raucous, rambunctious, storytelling rabble-rouser with a passionate zeal for life and a reckless charm that is completely unbound. Bob Wayne quit school at an early age and ended up becoming a roadie for Hank Williams III. It was there that he started writing some Outlaw Country songs of his own. While on the road, Hank and his band noticed that Bobs songs werent too bad, not too bad at all. Soon after, Andy Gibson (Hanks steel guitar player) and Joe Buck (Hanks upright bass player) invited Bob to Nashville to record his debut release, Blood To Dust. It wasnt long after Blood To Dust was recorded that Hank III asked Bob to open up for him as main support for a U.S. Tour. Since then Bob has been touring the world almost non-stop only taking short breaks to record new music from time to time, before returning to the place he calls home, the open road.

The tenth studio album from Norways Burzum is the third successive post-incarceration release from controverial black metal mastermind and innovator, Varg Vikernes. Burzums decade-plus of musical experimentation continues with Umskiptar finding inspiration from the verses of famous scandinavia poem Voluspa. Expanding the ongoing influence of Nordic folk, the album adds more traditional heavy metal, signature Burzum composition, but with a keener emphasis on vocal delivery (again presented in Vikernes native tongue). Vikernes says, Umskiptar is a return-to-roots album for me, with a strong focus on atmosphere and wholeness. The vocals are more important than on any previous album with a total of 66 stanzas making up the albums lyrics.

Robert Francis began taking piano lessons before his toes could reach the foot pedals. When he was seven years old, his mother encouraged him to learn guitar so he could play the traditional ranchera songs shed grown up singing with her sisters. Two years later, Ry Cooder gave him his first guitar, a vintage National Steel. In his teens Red Hot Chili Peppers John Frusciante took him on as his only student and a few years later, he released his first album One by One at nineteen. The Knack Havin A Rave-Up!

In 1978, radio and retail were engulfed in disco, and it seemed that the momentum wouldnt stop. The years number one single was Night Fever by the Bee Gees, and their younger brother, Andy Gibb, ruled that summer with his own Shadow Dancing. But, something else was happening in the clubs of Los Angeles. People were dancing, but to a different beat. By May of that year, Doug Fieger, Berton Averre, Prescott Niles and Bruce Gary decided to take their act public. Calling themselves The Knack, they fi rst took the stage at, of all places, the infamous Whisky a Go-Go on the fabulous Sunset Strip. The date was June 1, 1978. What happened over the following months was that of legend. The Knack sold out clubs all over Los Angeles. Guests like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Stephen Stills, Eddie Money and The Doors Ray Manzarek joined them on stageand every record label in the country wanted to sign this phenomenon. The Knacks appeal was a one-two punch; not only did they have great songs, but they were an amazingly tight live band.

WIG WAM was founded in 2000 with the concept to have fun and play music that the band members liked and grew up with. After 2 years on the road, the bands followers increased rapidly in their home country of Norway. The band independently released their first album 667 The Neighbour of The Beast, but it wasnt until 2005 that WIG WAM would enjoy their major breakthrough. By being invited to the Eurovision Song Contest, WIG WAM pulled it off big time. The single In My Dreams was released two days after their victory and went straight to #1 on the national charts, where it stayed for over 21 weeks and had platinum sales. The re-release of 667.., titled HARD TO BE A ROCKN ROLLER, stayed on the charts for 19 weeks and also went platinum.

This is the ninth annual 3-CD set celebrating the musical fruits of a project in which young artists join seasoned performers, to explore wide-ranging chamber music and orchestral repertoire, both well known and rarely heard. The CDs, recorded in the summer of 2011, are being released in anticipation of the Festivals 2012 season in June. As a chamber music event which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011, this series has become a laboratory that gives guest artists a chance to prove themselves not only in well-known masterpieces but also in rarely performed repertoire. This is the second instalment released in slim-line clamshell packaging, which better represents the prestige of this release and makes it of suitable size for newspaper/magazine promotions. Left unfinished at his death, Bruckners Ninth Symphony has become accepted in the form of its first three movements; even as the only authentic version and many have accepted the Adagio as a fitting ending, despite the composers indications to the contrary. However, Bruckners sketches for the Finale have been scrutinized by several scholars and many attempts have been made to provide a fourth movement. This is the first recording of the 2011 revision by Samale/Mazzuca/Phillips/Cohrs (SMPC) -arguably the most comprehensive, accurate and valid realisation of Bruckners intentions. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in this exciting new recording. Rattle gives the American premiere with the Berlin Phil on 24th February 2012 at Carnegie Hall.

Mozart: Music for Wind Instruments

NEW RELEASE DATE (PREVIOuSLy APRIL 10TH) Mozart is renowned for his genius for composing operas, symphonies, concertos, chamber music and choral works but his music for wind instruments, beyond the Gran Partita and the Serenades in E flat and C minor, is rarely played and even the authenticity of some of the works is questioned. In previous generations, wind instruments tended to feature soloists with orchestral principally strings accompaniment. In Mozarts time the wind band, probably more for performances in the open air than within the domestic environment, became popular and Mozart was keen to show his prowess in this field as he did in others. So whilst these works cannot claim to be as profound as the serious chamber music in many there is an infectious humor even joviality. What is incontestable is that these works show another aspect of his music which leads to a more complete picture of the genius and although even the greatest admirer would have to admit that whilst everything is not in Mozarts highest class, there are movements which are uniquely sublime one such is the Adagio in the Serenade for thirteen wind instruments. Indeed Peter Shaffer in his play and film Amadeus chooses this movement to give Salieri his first shattering experience of what glorious music his rival was capable of composing. The Consortium Classicum, founded by Dieter Klcker, recorded these works over a period of twelve years which is a similar number of years during which Mozart committed these works to manuscript.
