7 Students complete the words in the quotes from the video. When they have finished, invite some students to spell out their answers. 8 Watch the video, pausing at the appropriate points to check answers to exercises 6 and 7. Length: 2.12 Language art vocabulary, passive and non-passive verb forms Programme details This video is about a 2010 exhibition that brought together the works of one of the greatest artists in history, an artist who represented one of the most famous art movements. Before you watch 1 Find out if any of your students have been to an art exhibition recently. What artists were on show? What kind of art was it? Give students copies of the worksheet and ask them to do exercise 1 in pairs. In the exercise, students match the names of art movements with short descriptions. When they have finished, check the answers and help with any comprehension problems. While you watch 2 Explain that the students are going to watch a video about an art exhibition. They should watch the video and answer the three questions in exercise 2. Play the video and check through the answers. If you feel the students would benefit from checking answers while watching the video then play it again, pausing at the relevant points. 3 Explain that all the paintings in exercise 3 either appeared in the video or were mentioned. The students have to match the halves to make the complete titles. They should be able to do the exercise using their knowledge of English and through remembering some of the paintings they saw in the video. When they have finished, ask different students to read out their answers and check to see if the other students agree. 4 Can students remember which of the paintings in exercise 3 is not on show at the exhibition? 5 Play the video and ask students to tell you to pause it each time one of the paintings from exercise 3 appears or is mentioned. Also pause to check the answer to exercise 4 at the point when the narrator says: The Marmottan museum refused to lend the iconic Impression Sunrise, the painting which gave its name to a whole movement. (00:56). 6 Students choose the appropriate verb for each sentence and write it in the correct form. If necessary, point out that some sentences use the passive. When they have finished, invite some students to read out their answers.
