36 hours ago, important (somewhat heavier than expected), rains hit central Argentina These rains came during the longest dry spell of what has been a very wet summer. Tuesday, amounts of 0.25-1.5 inches fell in previously soggy SE Santa Fe, S Entre Rios, NW and E Buenos Aires. Expect 6 more days of drying then the rains turn back on.

Prior to yesterdays (Tuesdays) rains, the previous 7 days were dry across C and E Argentina (brown on map above) into extreme S Brazil. Another 6 days of drying is now seen before more rain returns.

The first 10-days of January saw a quick shift to much drier weather, centered over some of soggiest areas of C and S Argentina. Yesterdays rains (Jan 15-16) were the first heavy falls (again in the soggiest areas) so far this January. More sunny and dry weather is now seen then another round of Nov/Dec-like soakings begin a week from today (below).

Satellite remote sensing shows the current crop vigor across Argentinas Pampas. Plenty of deep soil moisture, periodic and frequent rains mixed with recent sunshine and co-operating temperatures in the mid-80s F, have brought overall crop vigor to off the chart levels in SE Cordoba, S Santa Fe, NW Buenos Aires and S Entre Rios...the heart of Argentinas grain belt.
