A. COMPANY PROFILE

Cainta Catholic College (CCC), dawned through the CICM (Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) missionary zeal, was founded by parish priest Rev. Fr. Jose Tajon in 1931 as Catholic College School (CCS). Built primary education where funds came from charity money and donation. The pupils were housed in three classrooms made of nipa and wood and enrolment increased each year. In December 1944, Fr. Tajon died at the Santiago Hospital, during the shelling for the liberation of Manila, CCS ceased its operation. In 1959, Fr. Daniel Courtens, decided to re-open the CCS and by year 1960 1961 where it began with seventy-four students enrolled with the emphasis given to religious instruction and moral formation. Vocational education was also provided during this time. Initially, the school was housed in two rooms: one for the boys and one for the girls. In 1963 a new building was constructed to house eight classrooms, an administrative office, an adequate library, a laboratory and a faculty room. The first batch of forty-four graduated in year 1964. Fr. Walter de Vilder, the parish priest and school director in 1965, the old Church building was converted with two-story and a new one connecting the old church with main building. With the assumption of office of Msgr. Sta. Ana in 1975, CCS became twolevel elementary level started with Kinder and Grade 1 and a grade level opened each year up to Grade VI. Pre-Elementary department opened in school year 1988-1989 through Msgr. Mariano T. Balbago Jr. who succeeded as parish priest and school director. Student population by then reached to 7,000. In 1990's, computer subject was added to elementary and high school with religion as core of all subject. Two new buildings were constructed: the Cardinal Santos and John Paul II. School year 1996-1997, college level was opened for Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) hence CCS became Cainta Catholic College. In SY 1997-1998, added courses BS Commerce major in Finance and BS Computer Science. Two courses are ladderized courses: Associate in Religious Education and Certificate in Computer Secretarial (Two-year course). K1 and K2 rooms were air-conditioned and built administrative building to house all offices. In September 17, 1997, Rev. Fr. Efren C. Villanueva was the new College President instituted reforms. Upgrading instruction and curriculum with the

professionalization of teaching academic staff, he sent number of teachers for post graduate studies at DLSU specializing in different fields. Enhance the Information Technology and computer education with the state of the art hardware and software to fully automate offices. State of the art Science laboratories, computer and speech with new technology and home economics building were constructed. Human resource management and centre for integral evangelization offices were created, professionalized and systematized. Rev. Fr. Paquito G. Gallego became the new president on Nov. 30, 1999 during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Protacio G. Gungon, DD. Fr. Pax, gearing towards academic excellence, gathered heads and supervisors of all the departments to form President's Council. He appointed Bro. Joel C. Javiniar and Atty. Carmencita P.L. Logan as the Executive Assistants for Academic Affairs and Institutional Planning and Development respective, and Mrs. Cecilia V. Vinluan as the Executive Assistant for Student Services. With Academic and Administrative departments in place, the construction of the new T.H.E. building was realized; former Accounting and College offices inside the Administration Building were transformed into classrooms for the College Department. The former office of the Property Custodian was refurbished into a prayer room for the spiritual needs of students and employees. President's office was transferred to the 2nd floor of the former T.H.E. building and HRMD took over the vacated President's office. In February 9, 2004, CCC elevated its status from

Parochial school to Diocesan College. An important phase in the indelible history of the institution is attributed to the initiative of Fr. Gallego and the resolution of the Board of Trustees led by Most Rev. Fr. Gabriel V. Reyes, Bishop of Antipolo, accorded CCC all the rights and privileges of a Diocesan College as provided by the Canon Law. In same year, CCC worked on Self Survey to prepare for accreditation. Celebrating Tri-Fest, making seventy five year s after catholic primary school was founded, the tenth year of the college department, and the closing of the Sapphire year of the high school department, Msgr. Arnel F. Lagarejos was installed President of CCC and at the same time the parish priest of the Our Lady of Light Parish in June by the Most Rev. Gabriel V. Reyes, Bishop of Antipolo. In November 29, 2006 Cainta Catholic College was accorded level one accreditation by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on accreditation (PACUCOA), a quest the institution has prepared for so many years. The VISION-MISSION of the institution was revisited in the light of the new

challenges for CCC. General assemblies and focused group discussions were conducted as means for consultation, cascading, and eventual owning of the vision and mission. For the more efficient and effective delivery of quality Catholic education, the management spearheaded the conduct of a Staff Management Audit resulting to well-informed management decisions. Customer Services Survey and Performance Evaluation of School Administrators were carried out to gauge the level of satisfaction of students and personnel in the services provided by school offices and administrators. The tuition and miscellaneous fees were rationalized by lowering the miscellaneous fees as a way to open access to CCC education. Children of employees were granted tuition fee discounts as incentives to their committed service to CCC.

B. PROBLEMS The subject school is encountering lots of problems from documentations to the implementation of the network management. With the members experienced and with the aid of ISO27001:2005 ISMS Implementation Checklist as part of guidelines, the findings and observations are the following: 1. Documentations for Policies and Guidelines on Network Management, Layout and Departments Organization Chart: There is an absent of policies and guidelines to establish, implement, operate and monitor, review, maintain and improved the Network Management System.

Example: No USB is allowed to be used for the computer. There is no documents stipulating this policy. Also, with regards to Management Responsibility, there is no organizational chart for the said MIS department. This is also includes no human resource security implemented prior employment, during employment and after employment. The department has no soft copy of the Network topology layout and only one copy is existing which is being displayed inside the MIS room. 2. Security Policy No documentations found for the information security policy. They are using free anti-virus named Avira throughout their workstations which includes the server. This kind of free products has limitations with regards to security features. Computers in the laboratories are used o used often by people with varying degrees of computer training. This means they are at risk from viruses, corrupt files, spyware and malfunction. You must maintain lab

computers regularly in order to ensure that they don't crash prematurely. Copying the whole database as a form of backup which would require more time. Also this is a weekly basis. This could be a problem during weekdays where backup data that will be retrieved as old as 3 days. No management in terms of network security like ACL and VLAN implementation. No SSID for Wireless Access.

3. Physical and Environmental Security (Secured Area, Equipment Security) Structure cabling is not fully implemented; as a result Lab expansion is limited. The devises are not secured and the cable is not organized with their main switch. Computers and other devices are prone to damages and not secured because students do not follow proper procedure of securing laboratories

4. Communications & Operations Mgmt (Operational Procedures and Responsibilities,

3rd Party Service Delivery Mgmt, System Planning & Acceptance, Protection Against Malicious & Mobile Code, Information Back-up, Network Security Mgmt, Media Management, Exchange of Information, Electronic Commerce Service, Monitoring)

The MIS gives an internet access for mobile/laptop users which can breach security. The school is not maintaining their own e-mail server or e-mail host. They use public e-mail facility like yahoo. Base on the topology, open security client (wifi client) could connect to the secured network.(refer to the topology)

5. Access Control (Requirement for Access Control, User Access Mgmt, User
Responsibilities, Network Access Control, Operating System Access Control, Application and Information Access Control, Mobile Computing and Tele-working).

The school offer free wi-fi access but does not implement parental control on their host spot, this will allow anyone with wifi connectivity connected to their network and to browse scandalous site. There is no caching and failover mechanisms, resource on the network (internet connectivity) is not used to its full extent.

C. Proposed Solutions
1. Documentations of the following amongst others: Establish the perimeters of your computer lab according to your organization's rules. You may need to decide what search terms or websites you want to deny to your lab users. You will also want to establish the criteria for your firewall. Post a "Computer Lab Rules" sheet that clearly states computer lab restrictions. These may include prohibition of food and drink, downloading software, opening attachments, removal of equipment,

MIT 601

COMPUTER INFORMATION NETWORKS 1st Semester 2012 - 2013

CMSC 311-SoftEng SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROJECT

access to illicit sites and more. Many labs maintain that anyone caught breaking the rules is removed from the premises. There are no documents stipulating on accessing prohibited sites via wireless connection or LAN connection. Also, with regards to Management Responsibility, there is no organizational chart for the said MIS department who are responsible on particular duties; they are always dependent on third party. Students and staff must know who the responsible people on a particular network issues are. This is also includes no human resource security implemented prior employment, during employment and after employment. Updated employees account, any confidential account accessing network processes, it must be modify for security purposes. The department has no soft copy of the updated Network topology layout and only one copy is existing which is being displayed inside the MIS room. Updated layout is important so that if ever there is a problem regarding with the network.

2. Set up a firewall. This is a protections system for your computer lab. Choose a network layer firewall that will deny access to sites or programs that don't fit into the acceptable criteria you have chosen. Set up weekly updates or automatic updates for your lab computers. Many computer programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, update their software and protection regularly. You will want to schedule these updates for a time when the computers are not in public use, and you may be able to do them from 1 central computer. Install an anti-virus program on the computers and/or network. This will usually stop a program from downloading if it suspects a virus. You can run daily or weekly reports on the computers to check more carefully for viruses. Install an anti-spyware program on your computers and/or network. Spyware programs install themselves onto computers to gather personal information. Anti-spyware programs can stop these harmful programs from corrupting or filling up your computer. Back up your computers on a regular basis. If your computer lab becomes corrupted by a virus, you can return to the previous backup to restore it. Evaluate software such as anti-virus products if can support the security requirements based on the activities of the school. The SQL server has a backup capability which can be used as can be added as their daily activities. No username and password verification before accessing Wireless Connection. ACL- security policy define on a router or managed switch, it filters traffic from source to its destination; only particular group or individual can access a group or a server. VLAN- method of dividing your network with different department, for example vlan HR cannot access vlan MIS, it is possible using vlan management.

5

CMSC 311-SoftEng SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROJECT

3. Organized the cabling structure of computer laboratories by following guidelines in constructing cabling and devices in the laboratories to facilitate good network cabling and easy monitoring cabling problem and risks because structure cabling is not fully implemented; as a result Lab expansion is limited. Do not unplug printers, scanners and other connected machines when the computers are on. Eject any USB devices before unplugging them. You may need to post this on your "Lab Rules." Turn off all computers by selecting the shut down option on the desktop. Avoid pressing the "Power" button to turn off computers. If this is necessary, run the computer in safe mode until you know what the problem is. Clean your computer lab regularly. The following are effective ways to clean a computer lab: a. Dust computer screens using a thin, soft microfiber cloth. Dedicate 1 cloth to be used only on the screens. If dirt and debris from other surfaces gets caught in the cloth, it can scratch the computer screen. b. Vacuum the floor every day, if possible, so dirt and debris is less likely to gather around the computers. c. Dust all surfaces of the computer. If the fans in the Central Processing Unit (CPU) fill with dust, the computer can overheat. Use a thicker microfiber cloth to pull the dust from the surface. Some types of microfiber cloth have been shown to attract and trap dust. d. Use compressed air to clean out keyboards. You may also choose to use a disinfectant sprayed on a lint-free cloth on the keyboard and mouses, for sanitary purposes.

4. Periodic review of Resource Management to check those items that are to be added or for elimination/disposal. Theres no network performance monitoring on the system. No basis for the need to upgrade network equipment to improve network performance. Members and Affiliates that make direct network connections available to third-party organizations are strongly encouraged to assign separate ranges of IP addresses and distinct domain names for use by the third-party organizations so that it is clear when access originates from the Member or Affiliate and when it originates from the third-party organization. These IP address assignments should be registered with the appropriate agency and made available in the appropriate who is database. This policy pertains to access provided to organizations, rather than to access a Member or Affiliate may provide to individual guest users for a limited period.

5. There are many reasons why it may be necessary to limit or restrict internet access in businesses, educational institutions and even at home. Internet access can be limited through software or by setting up filters that restrict the

6

CMSC 311-SoftEng SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROJECT

internet websites accessed. Restriction of internet access in businesses can be done by restricting the number of hours of internet usage or monitoring employees' internet access, irrespective of whether they use standalone computers or are on a network We can use software in restricting internet connection such:

The Site Filters tool lets you create a Resource List including all the websites you want your students to use, while putting the rest of the Internet off limits. For instance, it lets you show your class a particular YouTube video, without giving them free access to YouTube as a whole. Use Site Filters to limit online research, narrow your students focus, prevent distraction and even allow online research during tests. Vision Pro goes further, letting you create not only Resource Lists, but Block Lists too. Block Lists let your students use the Internet freely just with a few exceptions. You decide which sites are inappropriate or distracting, and remove those only, while continuing to let your students tap into the creative resources of the Internet at large. Need to keep your students off Facebook and scandalous/porn sites while theyre doing Internet research? Create a block list, add Facebooks and porn sites URL and leave them to work without the distractions. It's a more expansive solution for how to restrict Internet access in your classroom and guide your students' use of the web. The basic security implementations were instructing administrators to require staff and students to use WEP-supported (Wired Equivalent Protocol) or other access keys to make network connections. They could also make use of VLANs (virtual local area networks) to separate different types of network traffic, preventing sensitive data from being combined with school assignments or general online activities. D. ACTIVITY PLAN Project Description The project is about planning for network rehabilitation for the Cainta Catholic College. As presented in the problem, the project aims to solve it and with the recommendations and implementation plans, do a process test and comparative study.

I. INTRODUCTION

The education environment is undergoing a significant transformation today. Technological innovation is not only employed to augment the learning process, but also to optimize school operations by driving energy and building efficiencies, heightening the awareness of, and responsiveness to, safety and security concerns that affect schools and their students. Making information easy to access enables students to learn at their own pace and not be constrained to a single method of information delivery. Mechanisms that increase student performance can be realized through technology to assist in the development of 21st century skills. Cainta Catholic College (CCC), dawned through the CICM (Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) missionary zeal, was founded by parish priest Rev. Fr. Jose Tajon in 1931 as Catholic College School (CCS). Built primary education where funds came from charity money and donation. management and centre for integral evangelization offices were created, professionalized and systematized. Rev. Fr. Paquito G. Logan as the Executive Assistants for Academic Affairs and Institutional Planning and Development respective, and Mrs. Cecilia V. Vinluan as the Executive Assistant for Student Services. The drivers, key initiatives and requirements of the education environment are evolving beyond the traditional enterprise network. The next generation network architecture for school environments must be built on a technical foundation that takes into consideration the current economic environment as well as other business factors impacting the education market as a whole. Development of CCC is continuous and inspired by the hopes and dreams of its academic community. With concerted efforts CCC may still realize the dream of offering health allied courses, achieving Level I-Formal Accreditation, increase in the number of satisfied parents and students, and a lot more. With the intercession of Mary, Our Lady of Light, may Cainta Catholic College truly become a community of Christ's faithful in communion and mission of proclaiming the gospel values of Truth, Justice and Love.

F. Strategy Concern for IT The school offers formal curricular computer courses from Pre-School to College using latest state of the art computer hardware and peripherals. Gradually curriculum and instruction in computer is adapting to Computer Assisted Instruction CAI whereby teachers are using computer as tools to facilitate teaching and learning in ordinary classroom setting. The use of software and programs designed to automate the different offices facilitate easy and fast access to information for efficient and better service to students and parents. Cainta Catholic College still manages to offer computer laboratory subjects. In line with its goal of developing competitive students and to upgrades the computing facilities and support to meet the administrative need of both the faculty of teachers and the students. The institutions primary concern is to maintain physical facilities, make sure that current resources meet the demands of the need and to satisfy expectation over non-physical part of resources that comes as a peripherals requirement of the whole system.

III. PROPOSED SOLUTION1

These may include prohibition of food and drink, downloading software, opening attachments, removal of equipment, access to illicit sites and more.

2. Software evaluation to be used or implemented throughout the school Set up a firewall.

3.

Organized the cabling structure of computer laboratories by following guidelines in constructing cabling and devices in the laboratories to facilitate good network cabling and easy monitoring cabling problem and risks.

Members and Affiliates that make direct network connections available to thirdparty organizations are strongly encouraged to assign separate ranges of IP addresses and distinct domain names for use by the third-party organizations so that it is clear when access originates from the Member or Affiliate and when it originates from the third-party organization.

Internet access can be limited through software or by setting up filters that restrict the internet websites accessed. Restriction of internet access in businesses can be done by restricting the number of hours of internet usage or monitoring employees' internet access, irrespective of whether they use standalone computers or are on a network We can use software in restricting internet connection such: The Site Filters tool lets you create a Resource List including all the websites you want your students to use, while putting the rest of the Internet off limits.
