School First Semester Report 2008-09
This is the First Semester Report prepared by the school. It is part of a Commitment to greater transparency and accountability in every aspect of school life. As we step into the 4th academic year of the school, we are making a deliberate and sustained effort to reach out to our worldwide community. We are also learning about what we can be in years to come. Last and the present years we have seen a sea of changes in the way the school thinks about, plans. The school aims its vision to yield the best and the fullest outcome to the school community. We serve and strive to educate the young minds and believe that years to come these young minds will serve the society in the best possible way & we would be proud to articulate that these minds belonged to Qimam School family. The school academic year began on 4th of October with fully charged faculty and students. We welcomed all old and about 1000 minds joined the school family. November 18-19, our young soccers had their exciting foot ball competition which enabled them to participate in sports activities in the true spirit of sportsmen. On December 6, our young scientists had a great time in their science labs as the students of grade 6 to 8 spend their entire day in the lab. In the lab they prepared soap, tested experiments on closed loops, and bisect a fish and exhibited the internal parts for the peers to observe & learn. On January 24, we had our first parent-teacher meeting. The parents approached the teachers and received the right opinion about their children. They also accepted the suggestion rendered by teachers about their childrens progress and achievement. We celebrated National Day in the school, on 30th Nov and 1st Dec for KG and Grades 1-12 respectively, to share the joy of being a part of the kingdom. We concluded the day with the second parent-teacher meeting for Assessment II and departed for a long 16 days vacation to celebrate Eid. On Dec 17, all the students from Grade 1 to 12 had class wise sports events, to witness the spirit of physical activities. Every student participated and the winner from each class was awarded a medal as a token of appreciation. 3

Having face-to-face discussions with the required staff, meetings with general discussions and specific problem oriented discussions give a helping hand to the teacher in need to strengthen in crises. The teachers by themselves are welcome to the administration in concern with the student progress/ performance and to take effective measures for improvement. Teachers are often asked to report on students' progress to parents and school principal .Teachers also analyze the results to work out points of strength and weakness in order to help in providing feedback and further planning, taking into account standardized international tests in their teaching . These reports present useful information about what a student knows and what he/she can do. These reports also provide space for specific teacher comments and space for parental response. On a weekly basis, teachers log onto the schools server to fill in the relevant follow up for all students and give assessing comments. The administration in turn forwards the students follow up Excel sheets to their parents e-mails. Data collected from results is organized in graphs to observe upward & down ward trend and discussions are held with those parents and teachers to improve the performance. To encourage students to excel with their best, special awards are given to those students who obtain 98% and above. A specific % of their fee is waived and a certificate of excellence is awarded. All teachers receive the faculty handbook at the beginning of the year. It includes the schools assessment system and grading policy. They are asked to follow the rules and require information from supervisors when necessary. Seminars and workshops are often held to introduce teachers, especially new commers, to methods and techniques of teaching and assessment, to design valid and reliable tests which include items that are appropriate to the goals of the tests, and have a balanced coverage of skills as presented in the curriculum. In addition, teachers are urged to take steps to lower tests anxiety by appropriate preparation, and by creating a supporting classroom climate. Also refer to 6.1.1.2.
