Task: Improving
Chances at Haydon
with 5 ways to improve the chances of academic success of students from less affluent backgrounds at Haydon You need to explain each way, what would need to happen to make it work and why you think it would be successful. Are you focusing on factors related to nurture or nature? Your focus should reveal which side of the debate you find most convincing.
1. Allow students to experience the subject live. This means learning about the heart on a page but actually seeing it, touching it, watching animations. Not just hearing about static electricity but watching live how it works and going through step by step. This would need teacher organisational skills to make sure any proper equipment has been ordered (e.g. heart) and that you know whats going to happen to stay on task, finance from the government to make sure that they can fund certain resources such as online activities or covering the costs of those worse off. This would be successful as live demonstrations allows you to get a visual of what is going on and how it works and it sticks in your head NURTURE 2. Providing after school sessions after to school to help students understand their subject better by clearing up any queries and also expanding their knowledge of the subject by reading around the subject. This allows students to become more interested and aware of the subject to thus become more attentive in class as well as making sure they understand what is going on so they dont turn up on the day confused and unsure. The students would have to be forced or encouraged to come to these sessions and teachers would have to be prepared to give up some of their time and have researched some articles to help students get started - NURTURE

3. Extend school hours so that more time is spent in school learning about the topic and understanding it in detail. Teachers and students would need to have an extra break to cut up the long hours and also be willing to do this, Teachers would need more pay and students a play room or something that during their break they can relax and feel at home so school doesnt become something negative but a place of learning and fun, so its easier to be away from home for so long but this means a grant is needed from a private or local fund to fund these game rooms and also more TAX revenue cover higher teacher wages unless funding can be diverted from other areas of the public sector - NURTURE 4. To motivate students to help them learn, bring in successful individuals and those who have worked hard to work their way up from the bottom up and prove others wrong. The teachers need to be resourceful in finding these individuals and convincing them to come along. NURTURE & NATURE 5. Providing more school resources that are up to date and available for students to read around the subject and get help if they are stuck. They require a grant to purchaser these extra resources and also researching to be able to find and locate the best. NURTURE NATURE
EXAM PRACTICE
To give all children an equal chance of a good education, all secondary school places in a local authority area should be allocated by ballot, even if that means bussing students around the authority Discuss the usefulness of this view (7maks)
Students should be given an equal chance of an education but not at the risk of putting their welfare and stability at risk. By giving students a fair chance of an education should we not be improving teaching standards and school result rather than moving students around like guinea pigs. Additionally it should not just be the responsibility of the schools to provide a well balanced education. Parents and students themselves should be exploring their subjects, finding out about the world around them and how it works. However it may be effective. Taking children from schools were standards have fallen below recovery, why should they be there suffering for example teachers who have no passion or interest in teaching and are there for solely the pay check, or bad quality resources when children elsewhere whose school has taken heir education in full swing are not suffering. However it is not productive in terms of time spend re allocating or childrens social wellbeing y having to make new friends and being jumped around.
