AS A GIFT NEWBORN BOOTIES'

Pictured booties were made with Distrifil Azurite yarn. Gauge: 10 cm (3 inches) = 22 sts x 48 rows in garter stitch with needles 3.5mm (US 4) Materials needed: knitting needles 3.5mm (US 4) + 2 ribbons of about 45cm each. Less than one ball of yarn is necessary to make one pair of booties. For basic stitches, abbreviations and techniques, please see Outils sur maddie.weboption.fr.

Each bootie is made in one-piece with a total of 44 rows, beg. by the sole. They are done for 8 cm long feet and will be worn until about 3 months old. Cast-on 32 sts and work in garter stitch as follows: Row 1: edge st, CO1, K14, CO1, K2, CO1, K14, CO1, edge st (= 36 sts). Rows 2, 3 and 4: K36 Row 5: edge st, CO1, K15, CO1, K4, CO1, K15, CO1, edge st (= 40 sts). Rows 6 and 7: K40 Row 8: edge st, [YO1, SL1, K1] x 8, K6, turn, put yarn back, SL1, K5, turn, put yarn back, [YO1, SL1, K1] x 11, edge st. Row 9: edge st, * K2, SL1 placing yarn back *, repeat ** Row 10: edge st, * K2tog, YO1, SL1 *, repeat ** Row 11: edge st, * K1, SL1 placing yarn back, K1*, repeat ** Row 12: edge st, * YO1, SL1, K2tog *, repeat ** Rows 13 to 20: repeat twice rows 9 to 12 (= 'nid d'abeilles' stitch)

Rows 21 to 23: repeat rows 9 to 11 Row 24 : edge st, * K1, K2tog *, repeat ** Row 25: edge st, K15, [K2tog] x 4, K15, edge st (= 36 sts). Rows 26 to 27: K36 Row 28: edge st, K4, [K2tog, K6] x 3, K2tog, K4, edge st (= 32 sts). Rang 29: [K2tog, YO1] x 6 (= 12 right stitches), BO 8 middle stitches, K2tog, [YO1, K2tog] x 4, YO1, edge st (= 12 left stitches). Cut yarn. Place the 12 left stitches on holder. Row 30: K12 right stitches + K12 left stitches (joined in back of bootie). Work 14 rows in garter stitch and bind off all stitches in once. Finishing: sew sole and back of bootie, place the ribbon.

GIFT PURSE
Cut a 60 x 22 cm rectangle in a beautiful gingham cloth material. Oversew all around. Bend each short side on 2.5 cm towards wrong side and shape (ironing) the lapel for the ribbon (A). Make 2 buttons holes in the place where the ribbon will be tied, at 10 cm from each long side of the rectangle and in the middle of the outside of lapel (B). Bend the rectangle in 2 in its length, each lapel meeting each other; then sew each side at about 1cm from the edge (lapels not bended). Still on wrong side of the material, bend the 2 lapels and sew all around the purse width. Put the ribbon through the lapel thanks to the button holes. Place the booties in the purse and tie the ribbon You can eventually make a hole in a congratulations card and pass the ribbon through it.
