Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; It is Super Bowl Sunday time again! While our parish pews may be a bit lighter this coming Sunday (especially the 5:30pm Sunday evening Mass), I suspect there will be some fans who will be in church believing that the God of the Universe really does have an interest in which team wears Super Bowl championship ring #47. Be that as it may..... We are celebrating a couple of our parish 'Superheroes' this coming week at San Felipe de Jess Chapel. On Friday evening, February 1, we will gather at San Felipe in Capo Beach at 7pm. We will begin with a procession honoring San Felipe, the patron saint of Mexico with Mass beginning at 7:30pm. San Felipe was a young man who was martyred for his faith while on a missionary journey from Mexico. We will also be honoring that evening one of our local saints, Msgr. John Coffield, affectionately called Juanote by his parishioners at San Felipe. Even though he died several years ago, his saintly and gentle presence remains with the community of San Felipe. We priests were honored to take him into our rectory the last few days of his life and care for him along with his friends. While most of the evening will be celebrated in Spanish, we would love for you to join with us in prayer, song and refreshments afterwards. If you have never been to San Felipe it is a jewel of faith and community here in the midst of St. Edward. Know that you are most welcome! Together in Christ;
Fr. Steve Pastor SAN FELIPE DE JESS FEAST DAY AND MEMORIAL MASS FOR MSGR. JOHN COFFIELD
The community of San Felipe de Jess invites everyone to join in celebrating the Feast Day of our patron saint and in honoring the memory of Padre Juanote on February 1, 2013. There will be Eucaristic Adoration from 8:00am until 7:00pm in the Chapel of San Felipe de Jess followed by a procession of the rosary around the neighborhood. The Mass will begin at 7:30pm. All are invited to bring a food dish to share with the community at the pot luck following the Mass. There will be dancers performing, music and opportunities for prize drawings at the pot luck. Please come and join us!
