GLOBAL WARMING

Definition:
Global warming is when the earth heats up, such as the temperature rising. This happens when greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide, and methane trap heat and light from the Sun in the Earths atmosphere. These factors increase the temperature of the climate and hurt many people, animals and the environment. Many cannot take these huge changes so they end up dying.

Natural Causes:
The release of methane gas from the arctic tundra and wetlands. Volcanic eruptions can throw so much dust into the sky that it acts as a shield to solar radiation. Sunspots increase levels of solar activity, which can lead to warming cycles. Imperfect rotation allows to expose southern and northern latitude to greater or lesser solar radiation

Man-Made Causes:
Automobiles: Unnecessary travel; cars contribute to the growing rate of air pollution. Cars consume gas that release fumes which contain greenhouse gases. Type of fossil fumes used are mostly gasoline, diesel or oil in the combustion engine that produces power needed to travel . When fossil fuels are burned, they create pollution in the form of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane. These are released out of the muffler of the vehicle and into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline.

Industry Factories:

Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning for power plants. The chemical pollutants that are given off, pollute the air, water, and land. Pollutants are sent to the air after fossil fuels have been burned. Factories are one of the main and biggest producers of carbon dioxide which contribute to air pollution. Deal with metals, chemicals, plastics, and minerals which all generate carbon dioxide in the process. Chemical Fertilizers: These are the types of fertilizers that are put in the soil to help promote the growth of plants. The increase usage are applied to croplands and farming. Increased the amount of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. These nitrogen-rich fertilizers boosted the production of food because nitrogen oxide has 300x more heat trapping capacity per unit of volume than carbon dioxide. The downside to this would be that the run-off of excess fertilizers create dead zones in the oceans. High nitrate levels in groundwater due to fertilization are a great cause for concern for human health. Deforestation: Mostly in tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland Since forests store huge amounts of carbon dioxide, when they're cut down they end up releasing those gases back into the atmosphere. Trees are cut down for mostly human purposes, such as paper products, appetite for wood, consumption of livestock grazed on former forest land, large areas of farming and crops, tropical types of forest items (palm oil), and finally, for construction purposes. Electrical Pollution: Fossil fuels are burned in order to make sources of electricity. Electrical appliances are used 24/7 all around the world. Appliances are almost never turned off, such as fridges, TV's, computers, heat,

air conditioning, stoves, lights and many, many more! All these items need power and for power, fossil fuels are burnt, and with fossil fuels comes lots of pollution.

Effects:
Greenhouse Gas: The greenhouse effect is when some of the radiant heat from the Sun is captured in the lower atmosphere of the earth, which maintains the temperature of the Earth's surface. The gases that help capture the heat are called "Greenhouse gases" These include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, and a variety of other chemicals The Hole In The Ozone Layer: The hole in the ozone layer is like a thin layer of a unique kind of oxygen thats in the atmosphere (15-50km above the Earths surface). The ozone is the only type of gas that can block people from getting skin cancer from the harmful UV radiation rays. Some harmful and toxic chemicals are damaging the ozone layer. These harmful chemicals are called chlorofluorocarbons. These chemicals are found in a variety of household appliances like fridges, air conditioners, solvents, foams, and spray cans. Rise In Sea Levels: The increase of sea levels are happening worldwide, because of the worlds two greatest ice sheets have melted which were located in Antarctica and Greenland. Many people are already seeing the effects of higher sea levels and in some places, this has effected people so much they're forced to look for new homes. More Killer Storms: Global warming has clearly increased the risk of strong and intense storms and winds. Some of which that have already happened, which lead to devastating many areas around the world, many homes, and also many lives. These storms connect to high sea levels because of the horrible tsunamis' that occur with strong hurricanes. Scientists say that these storms will not be likely to stop anytime soon due to the rising ocean temperatures.

Massive Crop Failures: The warmer climate and weather have a dramatic effect on crops because they aren't able to survive in the extra heat that they are in. And because of the increase in heat, theres a decrease in the amount of water and rainfall in some parts of the world. The failure of crops have a huge impact on over one billion poor people because farming and agriculture is mainly what they use in order to survive. Widespread and Extinction of Species: Most scientists say that because of rising temperatures, most and many species may go extinct. This is because of the hotter and milder climates that they're not used to and that these species are incapable of living there anymore The worldwide list of species and endangered species seem to be getting bigger and bigger as this global warming problem increases. Disapperence of Coral Reefs: Many reports and scientists say that coral reefs will completely disappear in one day. This is because of the higher and increased temperatures of the atmosphere and climate. Toxic chemicals are also beings transferred or leaked into the ocean/large bodies of water.

Solutions to Lower Global Warming Problems:

Stop emitting fossil fuels: Elimination of burning of oil, coal, and natural gas or at least try to reduce these ways of living. For transportation reduce driving vehicles for close distances by walking, biking, or by taking the bus instead. Use more eco-friendly items, like re-chargeable batteries, more efficient egines, eco-friendly bulbs and lights, and battery powered cars such as hybrids. Reduce Cutting of Trees: Recycle all items that can get recycled. REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE Plant more trees around local areas Protect the old and aged trees by fencing them

Find alternate uses instead of cutting down trees Purchase used wood furniture, since it reduces the chances of more being built. Consume Less and Be Efficient: Buy less things, think before you purchase something, whether you need it or not. Unplug items that you're not using, it saves useful energy and electricity! Move closer to work or school areas Think green when making purchases Have more efficient appliances in your homes (refridgerators, air conditioner etc..)
