A Revolutionary Poet’s Life and Struggle”
Sivasagar who died recently was one of the most prominent revolutionary ideologues and poets who wrote in Telugu. Also known as K.G. Satya Murthy, Sivasagar was born in 1928. He completed his M.A in Economics from Andhra University. After working as a teacher for a few years, he embarked upon a full-time career in Marxist-Leninist revolutionary struggles. He was among the founder-members of the Revolutionary Writers’ Organization (VIRASAM) and of the People’s War Party. He was a close associate of Kondapalli Seeta Ramiah. Many of the legendary songs and poems in the movement were written by Sivasagar though they were not always credited to him. In an active career spanning almost five decades, he produced a great deal of poetry and theoretical writing on revolutionary struggles. Towards the latter part of his career, he grew critical of, and moved away from ML politics to embrace a Dalit identity. He pioneered a new kind of Dalit aesthetic and idiom in Telugu. The panel members will discuss different aspects of this extraordinary poet’s career and journey.
