ENgINES
Service your engine: A well-tuned engine can improve fuel economy, so change your oil and follow your car manufacturers recommendation on servicing. Use the correct oil: Always use the recommended grade of motor oil. higher quality motor oils such as Shell helix Ultra e can also help your engine operate more efficiently.

DRIVINg STYLE
Drive smoothly: Aggressive driving can use as much as a third more fuel than smooth driving. Avoid accelerating or braking too hard and try to keep your steering as even as possible. Reduce speed: The faster you go the more wind resistance youll encounter and the more fuel your vehicle will consume just to maintain speed. Easy on the revs: When youre pulling away change gear in good time. redlining the rev counter burns extra fuel. conserve momentum: Slow down early to let traffic lights change rather than stopping completely, or speed up a little before you reach the foot of a hill. leave a sensible distance between yourself and the car ahead to give you ample time to brake evenly. Avoid excess idling: Stuck in a jam for longer than 10 seconds? Switch off your engine and avoid using fuel when you dont have to. plan trips carefully: Cutting down on the time spent in the car is the easiest way to conserve fuel. To reduce driving time, combine all your short trips and errands into a single journey. Plus, if you can travel outside of peak times, youll spend less time stuck in traffic and consume less fuel as a result.

AIR cONDITIONINg AND LUggAgE

Use air conditioning sparingly: Air conditioning puts added load on the engine and requires fuel to operate, so limit use to particularly hot days. Remove the roof rack: A roof rack creates drag, which reduces the aerodynamic efficiency of your car. Avoid carrying excess weight: you may be surprised, but every extra pound or kilogram matters and affects your fuel efficiency. Take a look in the boot and back seat and get rid of any excess baggage!

Use higher gears: When you drive in a higher gear youll use less fuel, so change up whenever you can. Use cruise control: Using cruise control on major roads helps you maintain a constant speed and, in many cases, will improve fuel consumption.

TYRES
Keep tyres at the right pressure: Correctly inflated tyres are safer and last longer. A tyre that is under inflated by just 10% can reduce fuel economy. An under or over inflated tyre is also more susceptible to failing.

global transport fuel demand is expected to rise by 45% between 2006 and 2030^. To cope with increasing demand we will need all the sustainable transport fuel options available to us. Biofuels can offer a low carbon alternative to conventional gasoline and diesel in the short term and could play a key role in the medium or longer terms. Shell has been involved in distributing biofuels for over 30 years. Already one of the worlds largest biofuel distributors, we are working with our partners to develop the next generation of advanced new biofuels. For heavy duty vehicles, gas to liquid (gTl) fuel is a way to improve local air quality by helping reduce local exhaust emissions. Shell has carried out extensive research with gTl products alongside major Original equipment Manufacturers (OeMs) in both light and heavy duty applications. We are also working to meeting the growing demand for liquefied natural gas (lng), finding new ways to access offshore gas fields. Whilst the future is uncertain, hybrid, electric and hydrogen fuel Cell vehicles could be increasing in the longer term.
