Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Scoot McNairy, Clea DuVall Based on true events, "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis--the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA "exfiltration" specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it

JoAnne Longway, Townsend, has been nominated as 2013 Unit Member of the Year for Wabeno American Legion Auxiliary Unit #44, by President Kathleen Marsh. Joanne is now eligible to be chosen as Department of Wisconsin State Unit Member of the Year, whose selection will be announced in May. In nominating Longway, President Marsh wrote: Joanne Longway has been a very active member of the Auxiliary since 2005. She has been faithful in her attendance and support of all Auxiliary programs and activities. Joanne has distributed poppies, sold raffle tickets, and donated baked goods for events such as the Legion Chicken Dinner. But it is her leadership as Chair or Co-Chair of the Fall Raffle that showcases Joannes talent and where her service shines brightest. Acting in that capacity for five of the last seven years, Joanne has totally reorganized the Raffle. She runs the event with such efficiency that ticket sales have more than doubled. She contacts local sponsors for donations, soliciting prizes that boost ticket sales. She attends civic parades to sell raffle tickets to spectators and sets up a table at local businesses to give customers an opportunity to support the Auxiliary by buying a raffle ticket. In addition, Joanne works tirelessly to fulfill the ALA Mission of supporting Legion activities. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, Joanne volunteered to help with a thorough housecleaning of the post some years ago. She currently works at the February Fish-O-Ree, helps decorate and set up for the Legion Awards Banquet, works in the Food Booth at the July Wienerfest, and helps hand out treats at the Valentines Day Ice Cream Social at Wabeno Elementary School. Joannes community service includes many activities, but her personal favorite is volunteering for the Christian Food Pantry at St. John Lutheran Church in Townsend. As a giving member of our local Legion Auxiliary Unit, Joanne is more than just a Legion Lady. She is an integral part of our group and we value and appreciate her dedicated service. For that and for just being a great lady with a ready smile and a willing heart, I nominate Joanne Longway as 2013 Unit Member of the Year.

The first 2013 meeting of UNAC (Up North Authors Circle) was held at the Lakewood Library on January 9. Townsend author Kathleen Marsh began by sharing an excerpt from her upcoming The Truth About Townsend, Volume III. The snippet recounted the history of the Lakes County Library, which was owned by both the Town of Townsend and the Town of Lakewood from its founding in 1982 until the partnership ended in 1987. Members enjoyed a peek at the origins of the facility which hosts their monthly meetings. Jacqulyn Jahnke then shared a three page essay she calls Almost a Century of Football. Jacqulyn said her piece is the result of being a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. She has firsthand knowledge of what some call the old days of the 1950s and the gold days of the 1960s, a time when coaches and players mixed freely among the population. Packer greats like Vince Lombardi, Ray Nitschke and Paul Horning were regulars at her familys restaurant on Ashland Avenue. My older sister always said Vince was a really good tipper, Jacqulyn said with a big smile. My husband John and I are season ticket holders and regularly attend Packer games, she added. I see this as just one installment in what might become a book of observations on how the Packer experience has changed for fans over the years. The group applauded her skill in recording personal history, a perennial favorite for readers. The rest of the meeting was devoted to Evelyn Gaede who writes under the penname Jamee Pilant. Evelyn read Chapter 31 of Jennys Destiny, a sequel to her first novel Chelseas Doom. The excerpt relates a supposed chance encounter in a crowded restaurant. A recent widow dining alone, Jennys mother Virginia invites a total stranger to join her at her table. Of course, Virginia is completely unaware that her breakfast companion is actually an accomplice of the man who has kidnapped her daughter. UNAC members offered effusive praise for Evelyns work, especially complimenting her on how she managed to weave an original system of numerology into the novel. The result is zesty dialogue that creates irresistible tension between the two welldrawn characters, all leading to an emotionally charged ending. Indeed, the final exchange of the chapter is shocking, for both Virginia and the reader. Want to join in the fun? UNAC will meet again on February 13 at 5:00 at the Lakewood Library. New members are always welcome.

An Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly rather true. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now Someone Else Is To Blame I'm A Victim Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Part of your good hygiene regime is good dental care. Poor dental care leads to tooth decay, gum disease, and gives you bad breath. Gum disease and tooth decay leads to ill health via infection. Tooth decay happens when an infection-like disease causes the tooth to deteriorate and rot. Plaque sticks to your teeth and is the biggest source of gum disease and tooth decay. Eating healthy, flossing & brushing your teeth after meals and before bed helps prevent tooth decay. Avoiding sugary foods and drinks helps keep tooth decay at bay. Flossing reaches deeper into the crevices to remove tartar and keeps your teeth healthy and strong (and cheaper dental bills in the long run). If you don't floss, you let plaque build cavities to form in between your teeth. Flossing also makes your teeth have nice, finished edges. See your dentist at least once a year (twice is better) for a check-up. Get a good teeth cleaning to remove plaque, stains & food debris. Dental-Picture-Show.com explains the dental flossing technique pretty good. Spinal stenosis is created by the narrowing of the spinal canal. This narrowing may be caused by mechanical problems or by abnormalities in the aging spine. It may or may not result in low-back pain, limping, and a lack of feeling in the legs. Stenosis is often a degenerative condition. It may exist for years without causing pain or discomfort, but a fall or an accident can trigger characteristic stenotic pain. Numerous factors can cause stenosis, such as thickened ligaments, expanding infection, abscess, a congenital or developmental anomaly, degenerative changes, vertebral fractures or dislocations, or a spinal cord tumor. How is stenosis diagnosed? Spinal stenosis can be diagnosed based on the history of symptoms, a physical examination, and imaging tests. An electrodiagnostic study is more dependable for information on a stenotic spine. To diagnose stenosis caused by an abscess or an infection, blood work analyzed by a laboratory may be required, while vertebral tumors and spinal tumors require finely tuned imaging. How is stenosis treated? There are three basic treatment approaches to spinal stenosis: the conservative medical approach, which frequently involves bed rest, analgesics, local heat, and muscle relaxants; the conservative chiropractic approach, which includes manipulation, exercise and self-care techniques; and surgery. The source of the stenosis often dictates the treatment. Ultimately, stenosis is a chronic condition that cannot be
