Serving fellow Filipinos has always been a big part of my life.

In fact my college days, I was a volunteer for three (3) years in Katilingban para sa Kalambuan Inc. in Zamboanga City until I worked with them as secretary from 2004 to 2006. During my voluntary services, they let me handled the street children program every Friday night at Zamboanga Plaza to teach them basic education and render inspirational stories. As a result, I considered this a life-time experience that gave me opportunity to see the various faces of poverty and begin to internalize how really important to be sincere public servant in this kind of society. I remembered one of the street children told me after one of my session: It was in Chavacano Language numa tu ulveda sir, prequra gayot ustadya pa to para serve tu kanamun mas bunamente, in English Translation Sir you need to study hard to serve us better. This sentence seems like it was said to me yesterday even it past almost nine (9) years. You might say I feel destined to be a public servant. But is not that going to be easy, it was difficult than I thought. After I graduated and work as secretary in the said agency for two (2) years, I was not able to take my masters program because of money matters, and to keep my family going. They leave me no choice to find better opportunities here in abroad. Its been almost six (6) years I am working here as administrative assistant in King Fahad Medical City under academic administration. My experiences and exposures to International and National administrators such as Prof. Omar Kasule and Prof. Faroque Khan help me to understand the essence on how good management enhances the country. Furthermore, my interest to be a public servant in my own country, and contribute to its progress and prosperity has been always my life-long dreams. After long conversation with one of your students which is currently working as nurse in our hospital. I believed the University of Philippines (Open University) has everything that I am looking for to seek higher knowledge, to be more competent and efficient employee in public management field. Moreover, I strongly agree that this masters program will facilitate both my short and long term career aspirations. Nowadays, to be hired as good compensated employee either in government and non-profit organization sectors is somewhat more difficult due to market competitiveness. Upon completion of this maters program from your university, my strong desire to contribute to the advancement, development and good governance to my fellow Filipinos motivates me to pursue my career in any charitable, non-profit organization or government agency in Zamboanga City. Thus, I would like to utilize the information and abilities that are learned from this program to enhance and introduce new ideas to any institution that I may belong to in the future. I am certain my previous and present experiences make me a qualified candidate for this program because they have given me the skills necessary to be a strong and dedicated student. Thank you for reviewing my application and looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Sincerely yours,

Abdul Basir Pula MPM Applicant
