Dear Sheriff Winder: I have read your response to the statement issued by the Utah Sheriffs Association (USA)

and I am disappointed. It seems open to the coming perverse interpretations of our Constitution whereby good citizens could be registered, fingerprinted, and harassed by the Federal government for owning certain categories of guns or ammunition devices. Are you going to assist in this process? I feel it is your duty to resist this unConstitutional push to disarm and vilify the citizens of Salt Lake County. As my elected law enforcement official I ask that you join with USA and resist this move with their same enthusiasm and commitment. A huge campaign of disinformation on guns is pushed daily on our TVs and devices. It has nothing to do with public safety and preventing future mass shootings of innocent people; no gun law would have stopped Adam Lanza. Violent criminals will always break laws and be violent, with all kinds of devices. If we truly wish to increase public safety then we should make laws whereby immediate armed response by good civilians is allowed and encouraged. Now that will save our children and stop these senseless massacres by madmen. No, this movement is more ominous in nature and it ties into an alarming political change in the US. The exact kind our forefathers worried about. The Progressive political agenda seeks to fully disarm the American people over a period of years. Is this Constitutional? The proposed AWB and its associated bans (magazines) will make great inroads to this purpose. In doing so it could threaten public safety and perhaps even rule of law as its enforcement is attempted. This could lead to civil unrest or even worse as many refuse to comply with such unconstitutionality and seizure of private property. I and millions of others wish to prevent this and work to preserve rule of law in this country. That means we (YOU and I) protect the Constitution. Americans are entitled to own semi-automatic firearms with their high capacity magazines in order to resist possible tyranny. Even with these we are outgunned. This isnt some far fetched, ridiculous extremist notion but a lesson simply born of history. Our Bill of Rights was specifically included by our forefathers to protect this important right of self defense and of being armed. It ranks only behind freedom of speech in importance. The 2nd ensures the others rights can remain protected. It also ensures the government answers to the people and prevents the destruction of personal liberty which we are seeing right now with Obama. I implore you and your agency become more vocally committed to the preservation of our gun rights. You have been elected to do so and I believe your oath includes the commitment to protect your citizens and the Constitution. Your statement seems to indicate you will enforce whatever Washington decides, waiting for a judicial overturning of such a decision for you to act in defense of us. Your denial to make a constitutional judgment passes that decision to your county citizens, which they will do. On their own, widespread institutional LE opposition to these laws could derails these rights violations early in the process. Many Sheriff Associations/Agencies are sending a strong message of resistance. Yours has not. The Utah Sheriffs Association statement is spot on and you are called upon to show the same zeal in resisting this Federal power seeking to criminalize and disarm the good citizens of Utah. Sincerely,

A concerned constituent PS I signed anonymously because your statement does not provide me with a sense of trust in your organization
