Presidents Address
Dear Friends and Colleagues, As we see BIM evolving and becoming an owner requirement more and more, an important partnership caught my eye this past week. Researchers from Autodesk and NASA announced that they will implement Autodesk Project Dasher at the NASA Ames Sustainability Base, a 50,000 square foot office. Autodesk Project Dasher is an experimental Building Information Modeling (BIM) web-based application that can provide building owners and operators insight into full life-cycle real-time building performance. This new technology continuously evaluates and verifies a buildings performance as energy usage, occupants and function changes within it. The cool thing about Project Dasher is that it goes beyond current graphical or floor-plan viewers. It acts as a visualization hub presenting 3D representations of data collected from various sources to the building operator, providing a building debugging tool to improve building efficiency.

Infrastructure Modeler & Civil 3D The Dream Team For Civil! Ron Couillard, AEC Technical Consultant Civil 3D is an awesome tool for Civil Design as most people are aware of. But one combination of software packages that is becoming more and more of a great thing for Civil people is the use of Civil 3D and Infrastructure Modeler together. The power that each piece of software has is amazing in itself, but when used together can be, well, simply amazing! It used to be that you could come up with a great preliminary design in Modeler, but then would have to recreate the project in Civil 3D. Those days are gone! With the use of IMX files, designs can be either imported or exported to and from both Civil 3D and Infrastructure Modeler. Read Blog

Extend BIM into Building Operations The free* technology preview of the Maximo Integration for Autodesk Revit 2013 products helps extend the value of a Revit building information model (BIM) into the operations phase of the building lifecycle. Richly attributed data about building assets, that are developed in Revit during the building design and construction phases, can be published directly into Maximo during commissioning or at building "handover," thus supporting more immediate and efficient use of Maximo once the building is occupied. The Revit asset data can be exported in the COBie data specification, if desired. In addition, the BIM/3D asset data can be viewed inside Maximo, in context with Maximo applications and processes.
