-- ASIAN ART

ART and Art forms of Asia are reflections of the creativity and artistic capabilities of the Asian people. Asian art forms are like dance, drama, music, literature and visual arts have unique characteristics and style. ASIAN DANCE It has existed since the time immemorial. It has been an integral part of celebrations, rituals, and as a means of communication with Gods and among humans. It is a basic source of enjoyment and beauty. Dance is a rhythmic pattern of body movement usually performed with music accompaniment. Basic Elements of Dance Space- floor pattern design made by the movements of the limbs and shapes of the moving body of the dancer. Time Grace demonstrates relaxed and lively movement. Energy attributes to stamina needed to withstands free-flowing motion during a long performance. Asian Dance Forms vary from folk dance, pantomime, or symbolic gestures. Asian Dances narrate stories based on folklore, historical events and legends. Performances normally last for many hours. Asians dances performed in royal courts, temples, and theatres have complicated movements and require a special training. Dance performance also includes the use of intricate and elaborate costumes like colorful fabrics, floral headdress, intricate embellishments on the costumes and elaborate expressionistic masks. An actual performance is accompanied with chants and percussion instruments like gongs. Legong acclaimed dances in Bali Indonesia.

Gamelan or orchestra which is composed of gongs and other percussion instruments accompany the dancers in the performance. Sayaw Kasiyahan Dance of contentment (Filipino) an example of Feast dance. Lion Dance Most-liked dance forms familiar to people living outside China. The Chinese, however are best known for their Peking Opera. ASIAN THEATER Asian theater originated from ritualistic dance drama. Dance and music play an important role in Asian Theater. Two most popular theatrical presentations in Asia are from Japan and Indonesia. Japan Indigenous Theater Forms Noh The highly stylized theater of Noh exudes the world of yugen, a deeply aesthetic value based on a profound and refined beauty that goes beyond words and concrete shapes. Kabuki is the best known form of Japanese theater and the most loved by people around the world. Bunraku puppet play is a wonderful and heartfelt description of conflicts between established ethical ideas and the reality of love and life and turmoil in the emotions of the common people. Indonesias Indigenous Theater From Wayang Kulit is the Javanese name of shadow puppets. Dalang Puppeteer, operates and speaks for all the puppets. Philippine Theater and Asian Neighbors Theater: A Comparison People in the community gathered around to witness a ritual performed by a native priest or priestess in the community known as mandadawak, catalonan, bayok or babaylan. They danced, chanted and gave sacrificial offerings to the gods and spirits of the unknown world.
