Introduction

How we dispose our garbage is important because garbage is categorized as hazardous waste that poses risks to the ecosystem and environment and improper disposal of garbage greatly affects our environment. How can we protect our environment? One method is through reusing your fruits or vegetable scraps. An enzyme made from these can be seen as a way to help recover the ozone layer and fight against global warming as the process itself helps to reduce temperature. Fruit and veggie scraps enzyme is easy to make at home and has many uses and benefits

Definition
Ecoenzyme is nothing but a vinegar or alcohol derived from fermenting fresh kitchen waste such as veggie and fruit dregs (peels, cuttings and bits), sugar (brown sugar, jaggery or molasses sugar) and water.

The enzyme is derived after one filters and removes the residue after 3 months. The key ingredient is molasses, which the bacteria and microorganisms present in the waste metabolise into alcohol. This is reduced in its final form to acetic acid or vinegar. Vinegar with its acidic properties is well known as an all-round non-toxic cleaner. It is dark brown and has a strong sweet sour fermented scent. Eco enzyme is a multipurpose liquid and its applications cover household, agriculture, animal husbandry etc. Eco enzyme is developed by Dr. Rosukon from Thailand. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes to make once youre all set up with the ingredients and container, and the fermentation takes a minimum of 3 months.

Enzymes are protein chains that bring about biochemical reaction which is essential to help increase metabolism in our body. Another important property of enzyme is they breakdown water-insoluble dirt into smaller molecules. This makes them a perfect cleaning agent.

Conventional cleaning products

Conventional cleaning products might give the appearance of a sparkling clean

bathroom, but there are risks of exposing yourself to thousands of toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to your health. Most of us exploit a number of branded cleaning products for our bathrooms, be it for the surface or for the toilet or mirror. The end result could be a clean and sparkling bathroom but a not-so healthy environment. According to the National Environmental Trust and some other environmental groups, conventional cleaning products contain volatile organic compounds that can have drastic effects on our neurological functions. These products may enhance your bathroom and kitchen, but can pose a great threat to respiratory functions if there is an increased chance of exposure. Various products for cleaning toilets, floors, and materials such as glass, wood, and metal contain dangerous chemicals. These include hazardous phosphoric acids, formaldehyde, phenol, lye, and sulfuric acid. These products can certainly make your home a dangerous place for you and your children. The cause of worry is most cleaning products have little or no regulation in terms of the use of harmful ingredients. Moreover, the attractive package displays little information about the chemicals included, thus allowing people to use it frequently without knowing the real dangers surrounding its use. This results in exposure to harmful toxins that have negative effects on the planet. That's why the need for eco friendly cleaning products is inevitable if you want a clean as well as a safe environment.

Each time you use cleaning products made with chemicals, you are already polluting the underground water, rivers and the surrounding eco-system. Conventional cleaning products usually contain harmful chemicals such as phosphate, nitrates, ammonia, chlorine etc. The accumulation effect of these chemicals released from every households can cause significant damage to the planet earth.

Advantages of eco enzyme:

a) Reduce Pollution - reduces methane when garbage rots in land fill. Methane gas released from disposed garbage can trap 21 times more heat than CO2, worsen the global warming condition.

b) Save Money - Turn kitchen waste to DIY multipurpose house-hold cleaners. This enzyme can be produced easily with the organic waste from our kitchens.

c) Multiple Usage Natural household cleaner; air purifier; detergent; car care; fabric softener; organic fertiliser, etc.

d) friendly to our rivers (we don't add more chemicals into our drains like when we are using store-bought cleaning agents)

e) increases the O2 in the atmosphere

f) detoxifies and kills germs if used externally as washing/cleaning/or even bathing agent

g)The production of garbage enzyme generates ground-level Ozone (O3). The O3 helps to maintain the earths temperature by releasing the heat trapped by the heavy metal in the clouds. If every household turns its garbage into enzyme, we can protect our ozone, live in a smog-free environment and eat food free from toxins

During enzyme production, O3 + NO3 + CO3 are generated and these could help purify and whiten the clouds in the sky. Those clouds that trap lots of heavy metals appear dark. Those dark clouds cause more heat to be trapped on earth due to the greenhouse effect. O3 (ozone) from the garbage enzymes could reduce the heavy metals in the clouds and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere thus reducing global warming. h)More NO3 (nitrite) in the air is useful as nutrients for the plants and soil. The plants will growth well. The root can let the animal alive, and animal give their waste to the plant more hormone and nutrition.

i) Reduce over-use of chemicals in the agriculture. Keep the farm free from infections and insects.

j) Enzyme can fertilize the soil for healthy vegetable growing. It is natural hormone for plants and trees as well as natural herbicide and Pesticide. Enzyme can also cultivate sandy land to fertile farm land which is suitable for planting. It also keeps the air in the farm atmosphere clean and cool, clean impure and dirty water in the farm. k)its organic and 100% biodegradable

l) It is non-hazardous, not explosive nor combustible.

*Type of waste chosen : fruit peels

*Why? : It is recommended to use citrus fruits to make eco-enzyme. As our main objective is to reduce the amount of garbage being send to the disposal site, we are collecting fruit peels from the cafeteria. Unfortunately, they cant provide us with citrus fruits but using other types of fruits will also work for making eco-enzyme. Fruit peels provide a better scent compared to using vegetable waste.
