FSU and Ukraine...Warm and Wet


Mild and sometimes wet weather of late is bringing some snow, rain and melting to parts of the Black and Caspian Sea regions, leaving key winter cropping areas lacking protective snow cover.

Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus

The Russian Federation has some deep snow cover (W areas 10-100cm.4-40 inches) except little to no snow (bare) shows over the North Caucasus Region and the Black and Caspian Sea areas.

Heavier than normal precipitation (rain and some snow) was seen in late January (Jan 21-31) across portions of the Ukraine and S Russia. Departure from Normal Minimum temperature Jan 21-13.

The Ukraine also has been seeing mild temperatures of late with melting, some icing and an overall loss of snow-cover. Southeast regions now have a partially to unprotected winter wheat crop.

Temperatures will remain normal or warmer than normal over the next 7 days across SE Europe, the southern FSU and Ukraine.
