NATIONAL LEAGUE FOR DEMOCRACY (Liberated Area)
Firstly, we would like to state that the NLD (LA) and the UNLD (LA) are firmly adhering to
the principle adopted by their mother organizations concerning the issue of ethnic
nationalities and democratic and fundamental human rights of the citizenry.
We consider that, in the present-day world, if a race from a country such as Japan, China,
India, Thailand, Bangladesh or Burma gets opportunity to migrate to another country en
masse, conceives a new racial name for itself apart from its original one and tries to acquire
its own State or autonomous region, the host country could not accept such an act.
Likewise, if a group of race which has the same spoken and written language as its mother
race gets opportunity on various grounds to migrate en masse into the Union of Burma,
devises a new racial name apart from its initial one and strives to attain its own State or
autonomous region as one of Burma's indigenous ethnic races, the indigenous ethnic races of
the Union of Burma could not accept it in any way. However, all citizens officially residing
inside the Union of Burma are assured of equality with respect to fundamental democratic
and human rights as enjoyed by the indigenous ethnic nationalities.
Therefore, we hereby state that if certain international NGOs, citing democracy and
fundamental human rights, exert pressure upon us to accept those attempts of some citizens
having official right to reside in the Union of Burma, to devise a new name and acquire their
own State or autonomous region, it will be an utterly wrongful act which would be
detrimental to our great Union's "national reconciliation" program.
