Dear Post Road Families, The school year is flying by! During the past few weeks we have been assessing your children's progress in reading, writing and math, and making decisions about the best ways to challenge and support them. While we have been using the new math program Envision for a few short months we are pleased with the gains the students are making, and our teachers are becoming expert in managing the complex instructional components. Soon you will have access at your home computer to Envision, and you will be able to learn how concepts and skills are being taught in school, and help with homework! An important reminderplease have your children in school by 8:30 each morning! We have so much to accomplish and you dont want them to miss anything! An Hello from Our PTA President

Dear Post Road Families: Happy 2013! The start of a new year is always exciting and at Post Road it means looking ahead to all of the wonderful PTA Winter/Spring happenings! But first I'd like to take this moment to thank all of you for your kind, generous support in the wake of the unexpected tragedies that unfolded in the Fall. Post Road came together and raised over $2000 for PS 104 in Far Rockaway as well as making beautiful snowflakes for our friends at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The Fall months also brought tremendous support for the fundraisers that will fund the programs for our kids next year. Thank you, thank you! Plus, we once again got to enjoy one of our signature evenings, Family Science Fun Night! Thanks to our Science Committee, Dr Josh Brumburg, Julia Plaza, Steve Plaza, Dee McChain, Christine Cavalucci and Rachel Kaminer, for another engaging night! Our families enjoyed the fantastic science on display from our talented White Plains High School students. It was such a big hit many parents asked why we couldn't do it every month?! We also had wonderful ELA & Math Nights. Thanks to Caroline Furry and Kathleen Brown for organizing a successful Free Book Fair during Math Night, and thanks to all of the families who donated books. We had over 100 people stroll through the Fair and replenish their home libraries. The 4th Grade Nature's Classroom Valentine Fundraiser is in full swing! Order forms have come home with your children. Please support this great program and buy those Valentines for your friends and family! Friday, February, 8th is Family Fitness Night. We have a lot of different kinds of exercise and fitness demos planned. Plus, healthy snacks and nutrition tips. DJ Danny will be back! There is no better way to spend a chilly February evening. The calendar doesn't say it but Spring will be in the air on Friday, March 8th - SpringFest 2013 that is! Mark your calendars for Post Road's HUGE Spring Fundraiser/Raffle. Thanks to our terrific Springfest team - Naomi Lobatto, Nicolle Cannone , Kerri Reinholdt and Beth Stanton, so many terrific prizes are already rolling in and a few surprises are in store. Don't miss this spectacular evening. Our next PTA meeting will be Tuesday, February 12th at 7:00. Another great program is in the works and we always have a lot information to share, so please attend and bring a friend or two. There is still time to Join the PTA! Membership forms are included in this newsletter. Everyone who joins will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Target Gift Card. Raffle drawing will be held during our March PTA meeting, so join soon!

Estimados padres de Familia: Feliz 2013! El empieso de Nuevo ano es siempre emocionante para la escuela de Post Road, significa que ay que mirar asia adelante par aver las cosas que el PTA tiene preparado para este Invierno/Primavera! Pero antes de todo quiero tomar este momento para agradacer ah todos ustedes por su generosidad y dar su ayuda ah las tragedias que ocurrieron en este otono. La escuela Post Road se unio y juntaron mas de $2000 para PS 104 en Far Rockaway y tambien colaboraron en hacer hermosos snowflakes para nuestros amigos en Sandy Hook Elementary School. El otono tambien nos trajo una ayuda grande para recaudar fondos que van aser usado para los programas de nuestros hijos el otro ano. Gracias, gracias! Y mas tubimos el gusto de divertirnos con, Family Science Fun Night! Gracias al comite de ciencia, Dr Josh Brumburg, Julia Plaza, Steve Plaza, Dee McChain, Christine Cavalucci y Rachel Kaminer, por otra noche de diversion! Nuestra familias se divertieron muchisimo y tambien tubimos el placer de ver el talento de los estudiantes de White Plains High School. Fue una noche inovidable que algunos papas nos dijieron que por que no lo asiamos todos los meses?! Tambien tubimos una excellent noche con ELA & Math Nights. Gracias Caroline Furry and Kathleen Brown por organizer La Feria de Libros Gratis que fue un gran exito durante la Noche de Matematicas, y gracias tambien ah todas las familias que donaron libros. Tubimos mas de 100 personas que pasaron ah obtener mas libros para su libreria en su hogares. La recaudacion de fondos para el paseo de 4th grado Nature's Classroom Valentine Fundraiser esta en full efecto! El formulario par las ordenes fueron enviadas con sus ninos. Porfavor ayudenos con esta actividad y compre articulos para el Dia del Amor y la Amistad para amigos y familia! Viernes Febrero , 8th es Family Fitness Night. Tenemos toda clase de ejercisios y demostraciones de ejercisio planiado. Mas meriendas saludables y tambien recestas para la nutricion. DJ Danny va estar de regreso! No ay una manera mejor que pasar una noche con la familia. El calendario no dise pero la Primavera va estar en el aire el Viernes 8th de Marzo Festival de Primavera 2013! Post Road PTA "FREE" Book Bonanza.

On January 15th The Post Road PTA Outreach Committee had a fabulous night hosting The PTA Free Book Bonanza. The science room was packed with both people and books. In less than an hour 1000 books walked out the door. Thank you to all the families that came out and celebrated reading. We will make sure to bring enough bags next time! What a fun and rewarding evening for all. And a special Thanks to all the generous book donors, Post Road appreciates your support! But dont despair; you wont have to wait a whole year to attend another Free PTA Book Bonanza. Please begin stock piling all your gently used books now; we are co- hosting a District wide event on May 4, 2013, from 10 am to 1 pm at Eastview School. Please keep your eyes out for further information. And if you want to clear off some book shelves early just drop Kathleen Brown (kcarbrown@aol.com) or Caroline Furry (dfurrywitt@netezero.com) a line. Lastly, if you want to join the PTA Council Free Book Bonanza Committee please reach out to us ASAP, our first committee meeting is on February 7, 2013.

Nurse Brown Needs Your Help

Nurse Brown is looking for donations of new underwear to distribute to our children if an accident occurs at school. Please consider donating either a pack of boys or girls underwear. Sizes 6-14 are needed. You can just put the donation in a envelope/bag and send it in through your child's backpack to her office. In addition, Do You Need Help Getting a Winter Coat or know of someone that does? Nurse Brown has a wide selection of gently used coats and would love to speak to you. Again, if you, your children, or a friend needs a winter coat please contact Nurse Brown at: 422- 2326.
