GRAND RECITAL SUMMER CAMP MUSIC REVIEWS

CALENDAR: Sun. 6/10/12:


JK closed for Annual Grand Recital at Bienes Art Center @St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale. Hourly seating times from 1-9 pm based on student ages. Tickets go on sale beginning Fri. 6/1/12.

ANNUAL GRAND RECITAL:


JK will be closed for our Annual Grand Recital on Sunday June 10 at the Bienes Art Center at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. Unlike our small in-house recitals, students will be able to invite many additional guests to attend the Grand Recital at this much larger venue. Participation is open to all current JK customers in good standing along with teacher recommendations that the student is indeed prepared for the performance. Because of limited stage time, all performers are limited to 2 songs each. If a student plays more than one instrument, then they are also limited to one song per instrument. In addition, there are performance time limits of 3 minutes max for soloists, 4 minutes max for duets & 5 minutes max for ensembles. There will be hourly seating beginning at 1 pm until 9 pm based on students ages from youngest to oldest. Siblings can be accommodated in the same seating time

First day of Summer

Music Mini-Camp & Institute! Runs


weekly for 10 weeks all summer. Morning program for 5-9 yr olds from 9 am - 12 pm. Afternoon program for 10-15 yr olds from

12:30-3:30.

& are encouraged to perform in duets. Tickets will go on sale Fri. June 1. The cost is $12 per person in advance (including parking) or $15 at the door. Each ticket will be entered into a raffle for a free week of summer camp! There is no cost for performers who will each receive a trophy or metal. Attire is semiformal.

Summer Schedule:
We are in week 14 of our 16 week Spring Session which ends on Sat. June 9. We are closed on Sun. June. 10 for our Annual Grand Recital. Please remember that all make-ups must occur within the current Spring session and are not carried over into the next Summer session. Also there is a $5 rescheduling fee for any lesson not occurring at its regular time. Our 12 week Summer Session runs from Mon. 6/11/12 to Sun. 9/2/12. We will be closed on Sundays during the 10 weeks of summer camp so lessons currently on that day will need to move to a different day during the summer. Also all lessons must be moved to after 3:30 p.m. on weekdays while summer camp is running from Mon. 6/11/12 -Fri. 8/17/12. Please note that we require that any customers travelling this summer email JK their plans in writing in order to charge customers correctly when they are actually here taking lessons. Just letting your teacher know your plans is not adequate or you may be inadvertently billed incorrectly!

JK Mini-Camp & Institute:


JK will again offer its affordable & popular Music Mini-Camp & Mini-Institute programs . These both operate rain or shine! The Mini-Camp runs during the mornings from 9 a.m. noon for 5-9 year olds. It involves small groups rotating between: intro to different instruments, musical arts & crafts, musical board games & musical computer games. There is a performance for the families at the end of each week! The Mini-Institute runs during the afternoons from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. for 10-15 year olds. It involves: Jammin' in ensembles, trying different instruments, music appreciation, theory & composition plus a contest for the best new original song! There are 10 Weekly (Mon. - Fri.) sessions from June 11 to August 17. Beginners & advanced students are both welcomed. We have maintained the same prices as follows: $100 per week, $360 per month or 4 weeks (10% discount!), plus a $10 registration fee (per family). Reserve a spot now for only $25. Sign up before your week(s) are full as space is very limited!

JAZZ MUSIC "JAMMIN":


The final "First Friday Jazz Jams" where student jazz musicians are invited to jam with real jazz pros will be on Fri. 6/1/12 from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale. Audience members of all ages are welcome. Admission is free. For more info go to:

MUSIC REVIEWS:
JK's plans for a Drum Showcase at Weston Town Center were unfortunately rained out & ended up back at JK for an in-house recital instead. Many of Juan & John's students had some outstanding performances! Individual highlights included Juan's students: Rodrigo Hernandez, Mathew Sebenick, Eitan Dombey, Eduardo Lujan and John's students: Ignacio Finklberg & Cullen Mitvalski. Ensemble highlights included Matthew, Eitan & Ignacio's Garage Band & Juan's Jazz Band featuring Juan Salguero, Camilo Isaza (Adam's guitar student), & Francisco Poller.

Jammin' Kids Teacher Profile:


Juan has been our drum and percussion instructor since 2007. Originally from Columbia, Juan began his

studies at their National Conservatory of Music. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music from the University del Bosque de Columbia. Juan furthered his music education at the Sonarte School of Music focusing on advanced drums and ensembles. He also received a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance in Buenos Aires at the Conservatorio de MPB de Curitiba, where he also taught and performed. He also spent time in Argentina studying at EMBA Escuela de Musica & Universidad de Avellaneda, teaching and performing. Juan then studied Latin & African percussion in Curitiba & Salvador Bahia, Brazil. He has performed as a professional musician on Royal Caribbean cruises before joining Jammin' Kids. Juan is also the founder of our Garage Band ensemble program and serves as our Academy Manager & Music Director. He also performs professionally.

Stage Masters JK Stars:


Some of our JK students recently participated in the Stage Masters Music Competitions in Coral Gables, with some outstanding results! Jaffird's piano student Jacob Velazquez & Danny's piano student Elizabeth Castano both earned "double platinum" trophies. JK FALL DEPOSIT PROGRAM:

As a courtesy to our JK families who may be travelling this summer, JK offers the "Fall Deposit Program" to reserve your current instructor & time when you return for the Fall Session the week of Monday Sept. 3. The cost is $50 per student & is credited against your Fall package.

Customers temporarily using these spots during the Summer Session are kindly asked to find a different time if they continue into the Fall session.
