(B) Pharmacology Scope of Pharmacology and important definitions Routes of Drug administration Pharmacokinetics: Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and excretion of Drugs UNIT -2: Pharmacognosy (12 Periods) (A) Definition and scope of Pharmacognosy Various system of classification of drugs of natural origin Occurrence, Distribution, organoleptic evaluation, Chemical constitutions including tests wherever applicable and therapeutic efficiency of following category of drugs: o Laxatives: Aloes, Rhubard, Caster oil, Isapaghula, Senna o Cardiotonics: Digitalis, Arjuna

o Carminatives and G.I regulators: Umbelliferous fruits, Coriander, Fennel. Ajowan, Cardamom, Ginger, Black pepper, Asafoetida, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Clove o Astringent: Catechu o Drug active on nervous system: Hyocymus, Nuxvomica o Anti hypertensive: Rauwolfia o Anti tussives: Vasaka, Tolu balasam, Tulsi. (B) Occurrence, Distribution, organoleptic evaluation, Chemical constitutions including tests wherever applicable and therapeutic efficiency of following category of drugs: o Anti rheumatics: Guggul, Colchicum o Anti tumor: Vinca o Anti leprotic: Chaulmoogra oil o Anti diabetics: Pterocarpus, Gymnema sylvestris o Diuretics: Gokhru, Punarnava o Anti dysenteric: Ipecacuanha. Mechanism of drugs action, structure activity relationship, Factors assisting drug action and dosage, Biopharmaceuticals Concept of Receptors and Theory. Unit 4: Chemical Toxicology: (12 Periods) Toxic element in Water pesticides in water impact of toxic chemical on enzymes Remedial measure biochemical effects on pesticides.
