Special Education Paraprofessional, full time, El Paso PHS

Primary Purpose: Assist special education teacher(s) to provide for the instructional and behavioral needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including behavior management and instructional programs. Assist individual and small groups of students with their assignments. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the special education teacher. Qualifications: Education/Certification Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree HS Diploma/Meets NCLB Highly Qualified Certification in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with students with disabilities Ability to work with students with behavior disorders Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate effectively Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs Experience: Experience working with elementary students in a general education setting and a special education setting, particularly in a behavior unit or social skills class, is preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Support 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of materials and equipment. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Assist in the implementation of ARD identified accommodations, goals and objectives, and behavior intervention plans.

Student Management 6. Conduct instructional activities as directed by the special education teacher for individual students or small groups of students. 7. Demonstrate support for student management policy. 8. Apply ABA strategies for managing student behaviors. 9. Assume responsibility for learning how to work with student's individual needs. 10. Help supervise special education students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This may include some campus duties. 11. Keep special education teacher informed of special education student progress/needs.
