Steward Reflection: Resolutions

Generations of faith-filled Catholic people have passed on to us the most precious gift that we possess— the gift of faith. As this generation’s “good stewards,” we are obligated to pass on the gift of faith to our children.

Children primarily learn through the examples of their parents. Today, many parents are volunteering their time and talents to their churches and community groups and bringing their children along with them. More and more churches are encouraging children to return a portion of their “treasures” - their allowance or other earnings - with special children’s offering envelopes. As we know from our own experience, it takes a lifetime to develop the habits of good stewardship.

God has blessed us in so many marvelous ways. Stewardship is a way of life built around gratitude to God, lived out by returning a portion of the time, talent and treasure allotted to us. There is no more pre- cious inheritance we can pass on to our children than this lifestyle of gratitude.

“If you will give these instructions… you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed.” (1Timothy 4:6)

Stewardship Appeal Update

Our Stewardship Appeal is being well received by the people of Our Lady of Peace. To date 162 households have indicated an increase in their weekly contribution in response to our stewardship of treas- ure program. This represents an approximate increase of 8% in contributions from those that responded.

Please use the special Stewardship envelope to indicate your new level of giving, and then return to your regular envelope packet for succeeding weeks. If you are interested in receiving information on our Electronic Giving Program, please contact the parish office.

Please join the Religious Education Program and Academy of Our Lady of Peace students in their Lenten sacrifice of almsgiving by making a donation to CRUDEM (Center for the Rural Development of Milot) and HSC (Hôpital Sacré Coeur).

In September 2012, Dr. David G. Butler, MD, spoke to our Parishioners about his work with CRUDEM which is rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Hôpital Sacré Coeur (HSC) is the largest private hospital in the North of Haiti. Located in the town of Milot, the 73 bed hospital has provided uninterrupted service for 25 years. This premier Haitian healthcare facility has been a beacon of hope for the people of Northern Haiti as it creates a healthier Haiti, one dignified life at a time.

CRUDEM and Hôpital Sacré Coeur, exemplify our Christian heritage of service and compassion by:

Providing accessible quality health care,

Embracing all people in need regardless of their religion, economic status or medical condition,

Responding with faith, integrity, respect and excellence,

Meeting others with an open heart and open mind,

Calling forth the self-empowerment of the people & communities we serve, and

Upholding, at all times, and in all endeavors, the inherent dignity of every individual.
