John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was a very brilliant man who created his own genre of writing and literature. Anyone who has met him has described him as a man whose graces seemed to follow and flow from him, lifting up the lives of all those they touched. His novel The Lord of the Rings has sold over 150 million copies since it was publicized in the mid1950s. This is a huge accomplishment that most authors dont have the privilege of achieving.

Duriez, Colin. "Foreword." The J.R.R. Tolkien Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide to His Life, Writings, and World of Middle-earth. Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Book House, 1992. N. pag. Print. Source is used for a report and is a secondary source because it was not written by Tolkien himself. Few writers have attempted to write something similar to Tolkiens literature when it comes to the grand scale and even fewer have tried to create their own elaborate story line that is equal to that of Tolkiens. Tolkien saw no conflict between the fantastic and those things which could be verified by reason, logic or science; thus he firmly believed that if the fantasy writer approached his subject with the same level of reason as a nonfiction writer, the better the result of a fantasy would be. This biography tells of how J. R. R. Tolkien has created a whole word with his literature. It explains how Tolkien when to elaborate lengths in creating an entire history, geography, literature and language for a background to his fictional story. Because he created his own world just for this specific story, many people dont understand most of the books because they dont know the back story to it, but this book explains what a Tolkien read must know. Gilliver, Peter, Jeremy Marshall, and E. S. C. Weiner. The Ring of Words: Tolkien and the Oxford English Dictionary. Oxford: Oxford UP, 2006. Print. Any reader who is aware of Tolkiens unique use of words and style of writing knows that as an author, he has made quite the addition to the dictionary with many of his words featured in his books. Tolken Created a New Mythology]. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2003. 6. Print. Source is used for a report and is a secondary source because it was not written by Tolkien himself. As many know, Tolkiens writing was very unique and brilliant. This style is self-evidently related to his job which was teachings of Old English, Middle English and the history of the English Language, thus the use of the older language. Some of his earlier work shows some feelings of holding a grudge because during the time of writing these, he was dealing with the competitive area of a writer during that time with this same style of writing. This is the beginning of a trilogy that has sold millions due to its amazing quality of literature and its development of a new genre and style of writing. This book has paved a clear pathway for hundreds of newer authors to base their nonfiction fantasies on this series of books because it has such a wide and vast story and character collection.
