Art, is the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects and also works being produced. Each and every art is a design whereby it is the core of architecture. This assignment was given by our lecturer as a great opportunity for us to understand deeper, play the storyline in our mind which first impresses us what the painting is all about and looking at the detail artworks being done by artist. Each group of two were assigned to specific art galleries. We were assigned to Galeri Petronas which is situated in Suria KLCC in the middle of the town. Both of us visited the gallery the weekend right after the assignment was assigned to us.

The first artwork that caught our attention was an art piece by an artist of the name Raja Azhar Idris. This painting titled Hujan di Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur. This artwork was created in the year 1994 which is now eighteen years old. In Malay language, the title of the painting means raining in Pahang Road which is in Kuala Lumpur. It is an oil on canvas of painting. Our first impression givin towards this painting was why were there so many objects in the painting but most of the objects in the painting wasnt clear. After looking at the painting for a moment, we managed to roughly figure out what the objects were. It was an idea viewing outside the windscreen of a car when heavy strikes. The clearest object seen in the picture was the pair of hands on the steering wheel and the viper sweeping off water. The pattern of the painting was very organized because although the image is blurred we were able to figure our what was going on in the painting. The next step we did was to make analysis of the painting. This painting has a very good proportion of dividing and organizing the elements in the painting. Then after looking at the painting for some time, we tried to

figure out what was the artist trying to convey to the viewers. To us, what the painting tried to show the viewers was how dangerous and pitiful others on the road. For instance, without the existence of viper, the risk of getting into an accident will be very high on rainy days. I automatically felt the danger of pedestrians and also motorists. On the other hand, it is actually very sad to see stalls set up by the road side because once heavy rain suddenly occur, the sellers will have no time to keep or cover their goods and also look for shelter for themselves instead, getting wet and splashes of puddle of water from cars and motorcycles. Personally, Fang Shiuan and I like this artwork very much as it brings a lot of important meanings behind this picture. The point that we have learnt about this artwork that made us felt how we did was when the more we we think off what the artist was trying to convey to the viewers, the deeper the feelings toward others who do not have cars on rainy days and their risks of their lives just to earn a living just like others. This painting can be put everywhere because it gives a proper image to everyone to understand and view things of a daily life from many different perspective.

The other artwork that striked our eyesight was a painting by the artist, Hasnul Jamal Saidon. This artwork is named Hijab Nurbaya Series which was produced in the year 2003. This piece of artwork has mixed media on board which means the artist used many different materials in making this painting a successful piece. When looking at this painting, the literal object that can be seen was a pair of hands. When looking at the painting, we can see like a pair of hands stretching downwards holding on something. The colour of the painting is mainly red with a very blurred irregular shape. While analyzing this artwork, we

focused on the contrast and the emphasis of the painting. The contrast of the artwork was the pair of hands that was being projected out very detailed in the painting. Besides that, this painting has a very strong emphasis when looking at it because it developes a very strong deep feeling trough the heart which slowly brings meanings to the viewers of the painting. To us, what we felt and understand so far from this painting was a pair of hands carrying a head off a half splitted body. Its pretty scary when trying to imagine and abstact the image drawn on the drawing by the artist when its almost impossible to see what the blurred part is. This painting gave a great thought to us of people in war that was being chopped into half while sacrificing themselves. After looking and analyzing the artwork, the artist was trying to tell the viewers how important a pair of hands can be in any situation. We personally think that this artwork represents other meanings which has came through the artists mind which we cannot dig out from the artwork even after a long period of time. It might be an experience that the artist gone through before. As a conclusion, we both liked this artwork as it was much more outstanding compared to the others which seemed not having much stories and deep feelings shown in the artwork. We both then thought if it would be an idea of where to display this kind of artwork. This isnt a very good piece to put it at home where children cannot learn how to understand and interpret things yet and its best to be in an art gallery.

As a conclusion, the both of us did learnt a lot from this assignment and it was one of the best learning curve of appreciating artwork done by artists. We couldnt take any picture because shooting pictures around the gallery is prohibited. We would definitely go back to this gallery and visit more galleries in

the future in order to gain more knowledge and understanding of the description, analysis, intepretation and judgement of a painting.
