Educational Significance and Latent Value of Embodied Cognition

Abstract: As the f irst generat ion cognit ive science transforms to the second generat ion cognit ive sci
ence, Embodied Cog nit ion has more and more influence. w hat is t he educat ional signif icance of Embodied
Cognit ion? F irst ly , f rom Cartesian Dualism to the view of M erleau Pont y and H eideg ger s physical and
mental unity, t his paper elaborates t he orig in of Embodied Cognit ion at t he philosophical level. T hen,
from t he perspect ive of cognit ive science t heory, it explains the t ransform f rom first generat ion cognit ive
science of away f rom body to second g enerat ion cog nitive science of embodied . T his paper argues that
aw ay from body embodied is a continuum , w hich needs t o be int egrated. On t his basis, combined w ith
know ledg e- language metaphor ,

skills

body spat ialit y and emotion

body sit uation in t hree

dimensions, this paper ex plores t he sig nificance and value of Embodied Cognition for Education.
