Worth County Primary School 2012-2013 Parent Involvement Policy

WCPS Motto Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow Worth County Primary School provides a safe and supportive environment where all students have the opportunity to reach their optimum academic, social, and artistic potential. We believe that the family, being the childs first teacher, and that the home being the first classroom, are integral parts of each childs education. All members of the school community model behaviors and attitudes that foster courtesy, respect, and a positive learning environment. We promote a partnership between home and school and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the educational process.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities: There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer and visit at
school. When volunteering on the campus, all volunteers are required to sign-in at the school office and obtain a visitors badge. However, arrangements for visiting or volunteering in a classroom are to be made with the teacher in advance. Classroom Volunteers There are numerous ways that parents can support the teacher by volunteering in the classroom: prepare instructional materials, help students with class projects, allow students to read to them, and help students with math facts. Media Center Parents are always invited to visit the media center to help/read with their child. Parents are always needed to help during the book fair. Athletic Department Parents are invited to participate/volunteer during our annual Field Day event. Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Parents are invited to help with planning student activities and fundraisers. Student Learning/Homework: Parents can help students with specific projects, grade level
performance standards, interactive homework assignments, helping students set and reach educational goals, etc. Homework that the school assigns serves a number of purposes: to practice and extend classroom learning, to develop responsibility and work habits, and to provide parents an opportunity to interact with their children and their education. Parents at WCPS can support the school and their childs success by helping with homework in the following ways: Help your child get organized. Remind him/her to bring home the necessary materials: binder, pencils, paper, etc. Agree upon a regular study time and stick to it. See that your child has a regular, suitable study place, with good light, plenty of room, and no distractions (TV, Phone, Family Noises, Etc.) Ask to see what your child has done each night and that it is returned to the teacher. Show interest in what he/she does at school. Contact the teacher if your child has difficulty understanding an assignment. Our goal is to help your child reach grade level standards and beyond. Ask to see your childs agenda to ensure that homework has been completed correctly, to address any notes that may be in the agenda, and sign daily. Be familiar with testing procedures and testing dates to help prepare your child from home.

The mission of Worth County Primary School is to provide students with a solid educational foundation that will ensure a successful journey towards graduation and productive citizenship.
