A. Objective At the end of the lesson, students are able to use adjective ed and ing appropriately and accurately. B. Instructional Material Adjective ed and ing Someone is interested because something is interesting. Tom is interested in politics. Tom finds politics interesting. Someone is surprised because something is surprising. Everyone was surprised that he passed the examination. It was quite surprising that he passed the examination. The -ed adjectives here (bored, fun, interested) are all emotions, whereas the -ing adjectives (boring, funny, interesting) are describing the source of the emotions. Remember, we use adjectives ending in -ed to describe how somebody feels. eg. Mary is bored/ I was tired. We use adjectives ending in -ing to say how a situation, event or article makes somebody feel. eg. The film is boring. (Mary is bored watching it.)/ The journey was tiring. (I was tired after it.)
Eg. Bored/ Boring Somebody is bored if something (or somebody else) is boring. Or, if something is boring, it makes you bored. Eg. Jane is bored because her job is boring. Janes job is boring, so Jane is bored, (not Jane is boring). If a person is boring, this means that they make other people bored: Eg. George always talks about the same things. Hes really boring. -ing = the cause -ed = the effect C. Teaching Methods 1. Three-Phase Technique (Pre, While, Post), picture to picture, talking-stick D. Steps
