Chapter 1 Background of the Problem INTRODUCTION The beginning of this millennium is being characterized by an upheaval of some sort which is quietly affecting the lives of many people worldwide. These changes are aptly termed as

the digital revolution. In the future, technology experts say that all the information and entertainment in digital form will come from a screen. Throughout the developed world, projects are under way to create virtual libraries, which contain digital representations of museum objects, works of art, texts and moving images. Such developments are undoubtedly bringing to a far wider audience items and texts that are currently accessible to a relative few. The initiatives have continued and have built upon the massive investment made in recent years by public and private sector organizations in the creation and acquisition

of digital resources, to the extent that such resources now form a significant and growing part of mans cultural and intellectual heritage. The opportunities presented by digital technology have also come to be seen by some as a universal remedy, as not just a means of providing access to materials that they believe have lain unused and unusable in libraries, archives and museums all over

the world, but also as a means of preserving them forever. However, there is already evidence that electronic information created or acquired with public money is being lost through neglect or through a lack of awareness of the need to take active steps to ensure its preservation. As Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciencee

researcher graduating student t conducted a study that aims to develop a utility for computer which is entitled Eye Cam. Eye Cam is a utility that is use for screen casting, screen capture, viewing pictures, and voice recorder for Windows. You can instantly record your screen, and record virtually anything on your computer and it also allows the user to take a picture webcam. The main problem is that many system are already outdated. Todays systems change rapidly and there is no guarantee that today's software will still be readable by tomorrow's hardware. There is a concern about digital preservation in different information communities worldwide for some years now, but the serious and active interest is a relatively recent phenomenon.

Review of Related Literature and Studies It contains literature and studies from other countries. Literature are theories, ideas, or point of view and opinions of any authors which is related to the study, while studies are results/outputs (findings, conclusions, and recommendations) of a certain research study. Literature and studies must be supported by person/s and year where it was conducted. Literature

According to Wikipedia, screen cast is a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration. The term screen cast compares with the related term screenshot; whereas screenshot is a picture of a computer screen, a screen cast is essentially a movie of the changes over time that a user sees on a computer screen, enhanced with audio narration. According to Mayer and Moreno (2007) there are nine loadreducing methods, most of which are applicable to sreen casts, the especially important ideas are off-loading, segmenting, weeding, eliminating redundancy, and synchronizing.

Synchronizing

is

the

presentation

of

narration

and

animation simultaneously, which may seem obvious when viewed through the lens of screen casting.

Screen casts provide support for users in the same way that documentation does, and, as documentation evolved from print to electronic, a lot was learned about creating effective

documentation. The principles of effective documentation, like the cognitive psychology principles discussed above, can shape the way we approach screen casting. According to Ginsburg (2007) led the Ampex research team that developed a new machine that could run the tape at a much slower rate because the recording heads rotated at high speed, allowing the necessary high-frequency response. Biography of Ginsburg, otherwise known as the "father of the video cassette recorder, in the early days, film was the only medium available for recording television programs. Thoughts turned to magnetic tape, which was already being used for sound, but the greater quantity of information carried by the television signal demanded new studies. During the 1950s, a number of American companies began investigating the problem.

The still video or digital camera (the Sony Mavica single-lens reflex) was first demonstrated in 1981. It used a fast-rotating magnetic disc, two inches in diameter, recording on it up to 50 images formed in a solid-state device in the camera. The images were played back through a television receiver or monitor, or printed out. HyperCam is originally jointly developed by Hyperionics LLC &Solveig Multimedia to enable people to capture videos from Microsoft Windows screen and output the final file to AVI format. It enjoys high prestige among the congeneric products to capture screen video. According to Hyperionics LLC &Solveig Multimedia

HyperCam is a tool developed to help you record screen activity, while also offering a dedicated video editor to join and trim recordings. The interface is very easy and lets you choose the area to record instantly, with three different options at your disposal: region, full screen or a user defined window. Based on Hyperionics LLC & Solveig Multimedia another good feature of HyperCam is the hotkey support, which lets you pause, stop or start a recording using predefined keyboard shortcuts. Plus, you can set up a different key combination to take a screenshot during the recording.

HyperCam is also able to capture the mouse cursor, a feature that

makes the app appropriate for creating tutorials and other video guides similar to the ones we're seeing today on the Internet. The impact of system performance is minimal, as HyperCam runs on low resources and doesn't hamper. Thus, the researchers had chosen HyperCam as Related Literature because it is relevance to researchers proposed thesis because they are both use for recording computer screen activity. In this research, the researchers have concluded that you must give honest and accurate representation of product to maintain a good reputation and a good relationship with the costumer, thus, the researchers will consider this in presenting products on the proposed Eye Cam. Studies Visual Basic.NET (VB.NET), is an object-oriented computer programming language that can be viewed as an evolution of the classic Visual Basic(VB), which is implemented on the .NET Framework. Microsoft currently supplies two main editions of IDEs for developing in Visual Basic: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, which is commercial software and Visual Basic Express Edition 2010, which is free of charge. The command-line compiler, VBC.EXE, is installed as part of the freeware .NET Framework SDK. Monoalso includes a command-line VB.NET compiler.

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. Adobe's 2003 "Creative Suite" rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8's renaming to Adobe Photoshop CS. Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS6 is the 13th major release of Adobe Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price. Adobe Photoshop is released in two editions: Adobe Photoshop,

and Adobe Photoshop Extended, with the Extended having extra 3D image creation, motion graphics editing, and advanced image analysis features. Adobe Photoshop Extended is included in all of Adobe's Creative Suite offerings except Design Standard, which includes the Adobe Photoshop edition.

Therefore, both VB.Net and Adobe Photoshop are used to create a program like screen cast. Adobe Photoshop is use to make a cool design while VB.net is for coding.
