Summary of Training and Assessment Plan


Determination of Competence It is the policy of the RTO that students must complete a series of training and assessment tasks in order to achieve a result of competent. Training tasks are made available to students during the commencement of the course so to develop proficiency in key areas. Determination of competence will only be made during a validated RTO assessment task. Students must under satisfactorily develop a bank of evidence that demonstrates competency. General Information: This Training and Assessment Plan has been developed by the North Coast Region Registered Training Organisation in consultation with members of the North Coast Region Metals & Engineering Industry Training Advisory Group (ITAG). A student engaged in the course content as detailed in Part 2 of this document will be undertaking a course compliant to the requirements of the MEM20105 Certificate II in Engineering and the 240hour (2Unit x 2year, or 4Unit x 1year) course as set by the NSW Board of Studies. This Training and Assessment Plan has been developed based on the CPC08 training package available at www.training.gov.au and the NSW Board of Studies Syllabus for the Construction Industry Curriculum Framework available at http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/metal-engineering.html Teachers must monitor any changes to the syllabus and training package requirements. The RTO will alert VET Coordinators and relevant teachers via email of any such changes. Documents should be checked regularly via the NSW BOS website and training.gov.au for updates and version changes Mandatory Content: The Course Content as outlined in this document is the mandatory component of this Regional Training and Assessment Plan. When using this Regional Training and Assessment Plan teachers must ensure that all units of competencies detailed in this document are delivered to students during the 240hour course. Support Materials Support documents are provided for use with this Training and Assessment Plan including; An outline of units of competency and any learning clusters; This is a mandatory format for the delivery of this course and has been developed as a best practice model for course delivery by the North Coast RTO, Associated assessment tools for the assessment of the units of competency within this Training and Assessment Plan; These are validated RTO tasks. a recommended scope and sequence. Teachers may choose to deviate from this suggested scope and sequence without the need to seek verification and approval from the RTO.

Mandatory Work Placement It is a requirement of the NSW Board of Studies that students complete 70 hours of work placement during the 240 hour course in order to have this VET course accredited towards the HSC

General Information:
The clients for this course are senior secondary students who are undertaking this course as one of their Higher School Certificate electives. The students may have varied previous experiences in related industry workplaces and in related areas of school and other studies. They will therefore bring a variety of background knowledge and skills to this course. They may have chosen the course: to gain certificate qualifications leading to further study or employment in this industry to gain skills to support their learning across other learning areas to gain skills that will enhance general employment opportunities to gain skills as part of a Life Skills program (for students with special learning needs) They may be School-based Trainees or Apprentices, undertaking this course as all or part of the formal training component of their school-based traineeship.
