Justin Bieber. Greyson Chance. Do you get the idea what am I talking about?

Okay let me give you one more clue. Rebecca Black. What? What is the difference between Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black? Pardon me; they have no difference at all? No doubt, they are YouTube sensation. YouTube is a video-sharing website, created by three former PayPal employees, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in February 2005, on which users can upload, view and share videos. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users can upload a limitless number of videos. Videos considered to contain offensive content are available only to registered users at least 18 years old. So, what is YouTube sensation? Urban dictionary states that any YouTube video that has achieved; first, millions of hits instantaneously, second, a cult following or numerous parodies on other televised media and third, provoked numerous responses or imitations in a short amount of time can be consider as the youtube sensation. Since Justin Biebers video became hit and he managed to be a famous singer, everyone seems to follow his steps. Bieber, 18 years old, was discovered in 2008 by Scooter Braun, who came across Bieber's videos on YouTube and later became his manager. Braun arranged for him to meet with Usher in Atlanta, Georgia, and Bieber was soon signed to Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG), a joint venture between Braun and Usher. His first debut, One Time is now has about 300 billion viewers and 390,000 people dislikes the songs. Then we have Rebecca Black. Although she got many negative comments from the viewers for her first song Friday, she is never give up. Because of her horrible songs, she becomes famous with 550,790 dislikes from 25,925,972 viewers. With YouTube, even if you have a terrible voice, you can still be a well-known singer.

While in Malaysia, we also have our local singer who became famous from the YouTube. Yuna, Ana Rafali and Najwa Latif are the easiest example I can give. Ana Rafali, a TESL student from UiTM Shah Alam, uploads her first song on YouTube, entitled My Darling on April 2008. Until now, her first video got 103,447 viewers. She also hit the local entertainment world with winning the most prestige songs award in Malaysia, Anugerah Juara Lagu 2010 by songs Tolong Ingatkan Aku. Because of her winning, 970,301 people view her music video in YouTube. The next Malaysian YouTube sensation is Yuna. Talking about Yuna, many young girls admired her scarf fashion and I think it is good because she encourages women to cover their aurah. Yuna had uploaded her first video on YouTube in November 2007 with her own song, Dan Sebenarnya. This music video attracted 440,579 people to view it. Yuna has a very long way to go. Now, she is making an album in United States. She wants to bring Malaysian music to the international entertainment world. Ladies and gentlemen, Besides singer, vlogger or video blogger also can become a YouTube sensation. Niga Higa or his real name, Ryan Higa is a Japanese American who smashed the YouTube world since he was uploading his first video entitled How to Be Ninja in July 2007. The viewers of this video keep increasing until now; there are more than 32 million viewers. His channel name is a combination of "Inga", which means "rant" in Japanese and his last name, "High".Niga Higa is now a YouTube sensation since he has 5,157,314 subscribers and the total for his video views is 1,132,721,704 billion. Its a huge number right? His videos become a phenomenon and people around the world seem to enjoy his works. His most famed video is How to Be Gangster that hit over 34 million viewers. Malaysia also has vloggers. Mathlutfi90, IniAnwarHadi, Aiman Azlan, Maria Elena, you name it. In the top rank is Mathlutfi90. He is an architecture student in Curtin University,

Australia. He makes a lot of great and funny videos in his YouTube channel and attracts thousands of viewers in a short time. He started uploading his video in YouTube since 4 years ago, but his first vlog was published only 2 years after that. His most famed video is Serta Paksa which gets over 600,000 viewers. He has over 63 thousands subscribers and his video views are over 11 million. One of his video entitled We Eat Nasi also gave a great impact on society until a writer from Berita Harian wrote about it on the paper in September 2011. For me, his video has touched many hearts because of the deep meaning that sometimes make me realize about life and religion. Besides Matluthfi, we also have Anwar Hadi. He is studying in IPGM Kampus Pulau Pinang and now twinning in Macquarie University, Australia, studying TESOL. He has over 30,000 subscribers and 3 million video views. His Australian accents attracts people to watch his video and at the same time learning English. By the meantime, he also attracts people to like English. Nowadays it is easy to be a YouTube sensation. You make one video, upload it on YouTube, share it with your friends, and people will watch it and comment on it. If the video is good, then people will praise you. If not, you might be the victim of parody. Parody is a part of literature. People nowadays have misunderstood parody as mocking other people and make them ashamed. So, you have the right to make your own decision. You can express your opinion on something, or maybe share your talent making comedy, singing, anything but you must know the limit. Once it is on the internet, you cannot escape from the cyberspace. People might see YouTube as the instant or fast way to become famous but if you have something to be shared with, I dont think it is a big problem.
