We’ve Been Knighted

Read Ephesians 6:10 - 20

Karen Makishima

When someone is knighted, he is commissioned by the authority of the king. Those of us who
call Jesus our Savior are also commissioned as knights. A knight would never go into battle
without being armed. The results would be deadly.

We, as Christians, are involved in an invisible spiritual battle between the natural realm and
the spiritual realm. Satan and his fallen angels (or demons) live in the spiritual realm. Their
goal is to find ways to attack us physically and spiritually. We normally cannot see them, but
we can sense their presence. As a result, we must be aware and alert.

God has provided us with spiritual weapons, both offensive and defensive, to fight these
battles. The scripture reading today describes the armor He has given us. So gear up and fight
the good fight! Teach your children how to gear up and fight, too. They are not exempt from
this war!

When we forget there is a battle going on and neglect to put on our armor, we’re vulnerable
to Satan’s attacks. When this happens remember the “4R’s:

• Repent (Tell God that you are sorry for the sin you committed)
• Rebuke (In Jesus’ name tell the enemy to leave)
• Receive (Thank God for His love and forgiveness)
• Replace (Live what is right and true)

The good news is that the war has already been won! God has achieved the victory, but the
battle still must be fought until Jesus returns for us. 1 John 4:4 says, “But you belong to God,
my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who
lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” – YEAH!

P R AY E R
Powerful God, we want to be strong and courageous as we fight this spiritual battle. Thank
You for providing us with the spiritual armor to defeat Satan. Help us to encourage each
other in the fight. When we fall, give us the strength to get back up; to adjust our armor and
continue on. Also, help us to raise our children to be powerful warriors. In your Son’s
name, Amen.

What happened and how did you find strength to press on?

Why is it important to have every piece of armor mentioned in Ephesians 6:10 – 20? What if
we laid one piece down?

In the battle how can you discern the lies of Satan from the truth of God?
