GENERAL INFORMATION
SEVILLA
Seville is located in the southwest of the
Iberian Península, in the heart of the Autonomous
Region of Andalusía. As capital of Andalusía, it is
the fourth largest city in Spain with a population of
705.000 inhabitants within the metroplitan area.
The total population of some 105 tows within the
province reaches 1.800.000 inhabitants who are
spread out overa n area of 14.042 km2. Seville is
considered without doubt, the artistic, cultutral,
finacial, economic and social centre of southern
Spain.
Situated just 6 meters above sea level
on the banks of Guadalquivir River, the urban
centre extends towards the towns of Aljarafe, las
Marismas (salt marshes), the Doñana Nacional
Park and Sierra Sur mountains.
ANDALUCÍA
Seville is the capital of the Andalusian Autonomous Region, which is situated in the southern part of the
Iberian Peninsula, what gives her a warm and nice weather during almost the whole year.
This situation has helped Andalusia, throughout the centuries, to welcome several cultures that, from
the Prehistory, have chosen her as a place to li ve, as did the Phoenicians, Arabs and Romans, among
others.
This cross of cultures is shown in every spect that Andalusia offers to her visitors, Besides, together
with emblematics monuments of the Islamic architecture such as the Giralda tower in Seville, the Mosque in
Cordoba and the Alhambra palace in Granada, you find numerous Renaissance and Baroque constructions,
outstanding churches, monasteries, fortresses, etc. These are some of the best known treasures of a region
whose countless monuments bring to the present memories of the past.
Furthermore, Andalucia offers a diverse landscape full of contrasts, with such different shapes as her
wide coasts. Long beaches of fine sand and dunes on the Atlantic coast combine with beaches surrounded
by mountains and rocky landscape bathed by the calm and warm waters of the Mediterranean coast.
Her rich mountainous territory ranges from the white hogh peaks of Sierra Nevada mountains to the
volcanic landscape of the Tabernas dessert, and offers a great variety of fauna and flora.
Her monumental richness, her beaches and mountains, together with the light and warm weather that
Andalucia enjoys all over the year, have allowed her to develop an extensive tourist and leisure offer and have
made her become a modern egion, with important infrastructures.
Andalucía is in the van of the progress while carefully keeps her roots and maintains her inherited
monumental and cultural heritage.

GUADALQUIVIR RIVER
The Guadalquivir River has placed an
important role noy only in the History of Sevillee,
but also in the History od Spain. It has been the
access gate for the different cultures that have
settled here. It has even placed a leading role
in Duch important moments as the Discovery of
the New World, in time of Christopher Columbus,
when it became the entrante port for all the trade
coming from America.
This important role has been parallel to its
