FineGuidanceSensor2Replaced,it isoneofthreesensorsthathelppoint andlockthetelescopeontargets. RateSensorUnitsThesixnew gyroscopesintheseunitsworkwiththe FineGuidanceSensorstohelp preciselypointthetelescope. BatteryModuleUnitsReplaced,they powerHubblewhenthesolararrays areoutofthesun'sreach.

boomsensorsystemattached toits49footlongroboticarm.Nosignificantdamagefromeitherlaunchor thedaysinspacewasfound.OncemissionmanagersgaveAtlantisaclean billofhealth,Endeavourwasreleasedfromitsstandbyduties. TheheartoftheservicingmissionthecaptureofHubble,fivespacewalks andreleaseoftherefurbishedtelescopespannedflightdaysthree throughnine.Bytheendofthelastspacewalk,allthemissionobjectivesto improveHubble'sviewoftheuniverseandextenditslifehadbeen accomplished. Twodaysafterlaunch,AtlantiscaughtuptoHubble350milesaboveEarth. ItwasuptoAltmanandJohnsontobringtheshuttlecloseenoughtothe telescopesothatMcArthurcouldusetheroboticarmtocaptureitandgently placeitonarotatingworkstandinthepayloadbay.Fromthere,thepairsof spacewalkerswouldconducttheirwork.
