About this ebook

With every temporary politician with a ‘pen and a phone’ your liberties are shrinking. Don’t believe it?
Your children are allowed one packet of ketchup per school lunch period. If there is a large puddle of water on your property caused by a storm, the EPA will knock on your door to examine this new ‘navigable waterway.’ Bake and church sales are out, children’s lemonade stands are now closed by police. Your toilet water flow is regulated – soon, the temperature of your house and the distance you drive in your car will be to. HUD is busily deciding where you should be allowed to buy a home and live. 1984 came late, brother. And it’s time America woke up to its dangers.
Author of The Frog in the Boiling Water and Quotations of Chairman O – takes us where ordinary men are afraid to tread. An exploration of the limits a civilized society can be pushed to its breaking point. When will you stand up to soft tyranny?

What Price Liberty? - Vince Iuliano

    What Price Liberty?

    (essay by Vince Iuliano)

    So…

Barack Obama gave an articulate, rowsing speech at the DNC, and – like Mario Cuomo before him – people began clamoring for him to run for President.

On this basis (that is, one able speechwriter and a reasonable delivery), we are willing to give away the highest job in the land. Most powerful man in America, some say the world.

Well, he gave a good speech.

Now, with another Presidential cycle upon us, we are ready to give away the store again. There is talk that Hillary Clinton is a viable candidate for high office. Certainly not on substance (the Middle East and foreign relations are worse than ever), but on name recognition.

She’s been around awhile, like an old shoe.

The same thinking goes into another story making the rounds this week concerning Michelle Obama.

She’s been around, she started a garden, let’s make her a Senator.

It’s scary to think how easily people are willing to hand over the reigns of power on such a flimsy show of evidence.

In my younger and more vulnerable years, I laid the blame heavily on the candidate’s shoulders. If you ran on a Republican ticket (for instance) but chose to govern as a Democrat, there should be a public flogging (or worse).

Lying to the American public, I felt, should come at a very heavy cost.

Now, our politicians have raised bald-faced lying to a high art. Frankly there wouldn’t be anybody left to govern if they were all lined up for flogging (or worse)!

What’s a timid populace to do?

While half the country debated Obama’s nice smile and whether the First Lady was a snappy dresser, they decimated the Constitution and left in the middle of the night with many of your liberties. America suffered a bloodless coup at the hands of the Democrat Party while Republicans stood by fecklessly and let it happen.

Do you believe this to be an exaggeration?

Try starting a new business. Try building a new house. Try buying a car , or a dishwasher, or a microwave.

Try opening a lemonade stand for your ten year old.

The government controls your energy, your money, your health, your food, the car you drive and the roads you drive on (built with your tax dollars and subsidized with high tolls that were supposed to be removed decades ago); even the very air you breathe (classifying the normally occurring chemical compound that you exhale – carbon dioxide – a pollutant, and therefore subject to taxes and regulation).

The Beatles were right.. George Harrison’s Taxman nailed it: now there’s even a death and estate tax to tax your heirs on money you’ve already paid tax on while you were alive. Double-dipping.

To say the bloated machinery of government is out of control is to put it
