CLI- Login
Log into Toolwire. Double-click the appropriate desktop icon for accessing the G450 Gateway.
10
When you log in for the first time: User: root Password: root (Passw0rd1 for already configured gateways in the vLAB)
2010. All rights reserved. 11
"nvram init" deletes all data in the gateway and returns it to the factory setting.
12
Thereafter, you must choose a new password. The new password must contain at least one lower-case letter and one digit. Use Passw0rd1 for the lab systems (The O in password is a zero and the P is a capital P.)
!
13
After you re-login and enter the password, the Gateway Configuration Script is automatically launched. For the exercise, use the settings in the lab network address worksheet provided by the instructor. 2010. All rights reserved.
14
15
All the parameters can be configured without the Gateway Configuration Script. The Gateway Configuration Script is not available in older firmware releases.
2010. All rights reserved. 16

The manual configuration will not be used in the virtual lab.
Configure an IP address for the gateway. Exit the Interface VLAN menu.

MGC
The manual configuration will not be used in the virtual lab.
MGC is the Media Gateway Controller. Here the S8300D server is the MGC.
19
Use these commands to disable auto-negotiation on the specified ports. Auto-negotiation uses a link negotiation protocol to determine the highest connection parameters available to connected ports, and configures the port speed and duplex setting of both ports. Port 10/5 and 10/6 are the Layer 2 switch ports on the G450.
2010. All rights reserved. 20
Make note of the serial number of your G450, as it must be entered in the server later in order to register the gateway. (Do not use the example serial number on this image during the exercise!)
21
Save Configuration
Copy the configuration from the volatile to the non-volatile memory of the G450 gateway. Reset the G450 gateway so that IP address is adopted.
22
ICC VLAN
If a different VLAN ID, here VLAN ID 13, is needed, the Internal Call Controller (ICC) has to be allocated to the different VLAN as well.
23
24
Note: Due to remote lab limitations, the Initial start-up will not be performed during the exercise.
25
Service PC
26
Test Connection
Test connection with the ping command. The S8300D needs approx. 30 seconds after the power returns until the network interface is available at the Services socket. When the ping test is successful, connect via Telnet with the S8300D.
2010. All rights reserved. 28
Install Software
Change the parameters with the arrow keys. Confirm with the "Return" key.
29
30
CMM installation: integrated voicemail system with the S8300D server. Mask only visible if line feed in Telnet switched off. Installation takes approx. 10 minutes longer. Installation always possible. A license is needed for operation. CMM is not installed on the S8300D in Toolwire environment.
2010. All rights reserved. 31
The software is now installed automatically by the CD: Formatting the server hard disk Partitioning the server hard disk Installing the Linux operating system Installing Communication Manager software
2010. All rights reserved. 32
Installation complete. CD ROM drive opens. Server reboots with the installed software. Boot time approx. 3 minutes. The server is then ready for configuration

The licenses for the lab systems are available on the appropriated remote PCs desktop in the virtual lab (folder lab materials). For a customer system Avaya Remote Feature Activation (RFA) is used for License delivery till CM 5.2.1. Documentation about RFA can be found at http://support.avaya.com
2010. All rights reserved. 57
License import takes approx. 20 seconds. Do not undertake any other work on the server while this is happening. If there is no valid license, the system will issue a major alarm (red LED) and system administration (add and change commands) will be blocked

ASA is: An application of Avaya Integrated Management used to administer Communication Manager A PC-based tool or application that runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server and Windows Vista To run Avaya Site Administration, your computer must have:
67
Additionally ASA provides terminal emulation and the GEDI (Graphically Enhanced DEFINITY Interface) for access to Communication Manager for other administrative operations.. You can perform most of your day-to-day administration tasks from the GEDI , for example, adding or removing users and telephony devices. You can also schedule tasks to run at a non-peak usage time.

Command Structure
Commands are the language that you use to communicate with the voice system. Commands are used to:
Make changes to the voice system. Monitor voice system performance. Perform troubleshooting.
Each command consists of an action word, an object, and sometimes qualifiers. Command names can be abbreviated.
The system recognizes a partially spelled word when you enter enough letters to distinguish a command name from other valid entries. Otherwise, the screen displays a selection of command words that match the abbreviation.

IP Phones
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to: Describe the boot procedure of an 9600- and 1600-series IP telephone S8500C media server Load new software to a 9600-series or 1600-series IP telephone Install MV_IPTel File Server on a PC Use MV_IPTel File Server to load new software to a 9600- or 1600-series IP telephone Describe the functionality of the 46xxsettings.txt file
136
Boot procedure
When installing an IP telephone, it is helpful if you know what is happening during the boot procedure: S8500C the IP server When it is powered on, or when a manual reset is performed, mediatelephone undergoes a short start-up phase. During this process, the telephone checks whether an application file is already present in its non-volatile memory. If the application file is found, it is loaded to volatile memory and takes over control. If no application file is found, the boot code is loaded to volatile memory, and this then takes over control. The application or boot code file initializes the IP telephone for the entry of manual boot parameters or for obtaining boot data from a DHCP server.
137
138
IP address Subnet mask Default gateway IP address DNS server addresses DNS domains
139
140
If a DHCP server in the default VLAN does not provide an appropriate response to the options, the IP telephone installation process cannot be completed.
141
142
An IP telephone can be provided with a gatekeeper list to which it sends the initial RAS gatekeeper request (GRQ). The gatekeeper list is provided with the DHCP options 242/176. In the string used for DHCP options 242/176, the comma-separated IP addresses following the MCIPADD parameter represent the gatekeeper list. This list allows redundancy in the boot procedure. If a specific gatekeeper is not available, the telephone attempts the other gatekeepers in the list.
143
For more information on the administrative tasks in relation to the IP telephones, see the following documentation:
