Siddhartha Vocabulary

Ablutions is a cleansing with water or other liquid, especially as a religious ritual. Meditation means continued or extended thought, reflection or contemplation. Vocation is a strong impulse or inclination to follow a particular activity or career; a divine call to Gods service; a calling. Vessel a person regarded as an agent or vehicle for some purpose of quality [she was the vessel of the Lord] Atman the principle of life; the individual self, known after enlightenment to be identical with Brahman; the World Soul, from which all individual souls derive, and to which they return as the supreme goal of existence. Insatiable means incapable of being satisfied or appeased [insatiable hunger for knowledge] Ascetic is a person who dedicates his or her life to pursuit of contemplative ideals and practices extreme self-denial for religious reasons; a person who lives a simple life and abstains from the normal pleasures of man as well as denying himself of material satisfaction Blanched means to make pale, as with sickness or fear [the long illness had blanched her cheeks of their natural color] Pilgrim is a person who journeys, especially a long distance, to some sacred place as an act of religious devotion [the pilgrims hate to separate from Mecca, their holy land] Illusions is something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. Voluntary means to be done, made, or brought about in accordance with ones will and freedom of choice. Palliative is something that is used to relieve or lessen but without completely curing; concealing the gravity of an offense by excuses, apologies etc. Salvation is a source, cause, or means of being saved / protected from harm, risk, danger, loss etc. Spiral means to run continuously around a fixed point or centre while constantly receding from or approaching it.

Nirvana is freedom from the endless cycle of personal reincarnations, with their consequence suffering, as a result of extinction of individual passion, hatred and delusion; a place or state characterized by freedom from or oblivion to pain, worry, and the external world. Venerable means commanding respect because of great age or impressive dignity. Cycle is a round of years or a recurring period of time, especially one in which certain events or phenomena repeat themselves in the same order and at the same intervals Illustrious means highly distinguished, renowned or famous. [an illustrious leader] Hypnotized means to influence, control or direct completely by personal charm, words or domination Abode is a place in which a person resides Partook means to tae or have part or share along with others; participate; to receive or take or have a share or portion Alms is money, food, or other donations given to the poor or needy [the hands of beggars were outstretched for alms] Unassuming means modest Demeanor is a persons conduct, behaviour or appearance Buddha is a person who has attained full enlightenment; last one was Gautama; series of teachers in Buddhism Radiated means to extend, spread or move like rays from a centre; to project or glow with cheerfulness, joy etc. Allegiance means loyalty or devotion to some person, group or cause Renounced means to give up or put aside voluntarily [to renounce worldly pleasures] Exalted means raised or elevated as in rank or character; noble Doctrine is a particular principle, position, or policy taught or advocated, as of a religion or government; something that is taught; teachings collectively; a body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject Enlightened is to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; to shed light upon

Unfathomable means something that is not able to be completely understood; incomprehensible [the intensity of love I feel towards you is unfathomable] Equanimity is mental or emotional stability or composure, especially under tension or strain Imperturbable means to be incapable or being upset of agitated; not easily excited; calm Restrained is to hold back from action; keep in check or under control; repressed; to deprive of liberty Shadow is to follow about secretly, in order to keep watch over ones movements Scolded is to find fault with angrily; to reprimand Upanishads is a group of writings sacred in Hinduism concerning the relations of humans, God and the universe
