Biography of Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon sahib R.A. Shahansha-e-vilayat Gwalior (M.P.) India.

Introduction : True to the 500 years old sacred traditions set by the Great Saint Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon , a number of activities for the upliftment of the religious and spiritual life of the people were in the past carried out by the Late Hazrat Hamiduddin, his worthy son Late Hazrat Khwaja Nazir Nizami and have now been conducted by the present Sajjadanashin Hazrat Khwaja Rashid Khanooni. One

such of them is to work for the social, cultural and spiritual integration of the people through the noble institution of the Roohani Academy a wing of Khwaja sahib Education & Welfare society Registered. The Academy, apart from rendering a number of philanthropic services, aspires to establish the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. The present site is a feeble attempt to compile, edit and reproduce all that has so far been written about Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon and his worthy descendants with this pen or by other distinguished writers; under the auspicies of the Roohani Academy. It is therefore, not only reproduces some my previous articles but also includes a few which I have lately written about the Great Saint and his glorious heritage of society and its activities. I sincerely hope and pray that my distinguished viewers go through this piece of work with patience and understanding. It is impossible to produce something perfect about so great a person as Great Saint who as boundless as ocean and mysterious as life. I will therefore request my viewers to bear with me if they come across the acts of errors and omissions in this site. I will not only gratefully acknowledge and welcome suggestions for further improvements on this site, but also be earnestly looking forward for them. Our Founders Thos who love and serve the vast creation of the Allah; live a blissful life and undoubtedly attain the highest abode in heaven as the darling of Allah. The Holy, the Wise and the Enlightened, have always preached that the service to Mankind is the best service to Allah. Lives of all great Saints, Sufis and Walis have reflected this divine characteristic. The mightiest have bowed to them in respectful humility. A pure heart drenched in devotion is responsible for that spiritual strength; which alleviates mortals to angelic heights. Drenched in supreme bliss, they feel Allah, think Allah, live Allah and experience Allah all around them and remain blissfully indifferent to the tinsel and trash of this world. This is the path of glory treated by great saints of all religions. This is the preaching of Sunnah-e-Rasul and the Holy Quran. This is the Holy Gospel, which has enabled our Sufis to achieve the impossible in a trice with their miraculous powers. Of late, a true successor of this Divine lineage who treated this path of glory all his life was Hazrat Khwaja Mohiuddin shah Nazir Nizami. He was undoubtedly the most luminous star that brightened the spiritual horizon of Gwalior (Central India) in particular and this holy land of Saints and Sufis in general. All his life he strived to uplift the misguided humanity by preaching the gospel of love, brotherhood and selfless service. His presence instilled faith in the people and his preaching rekindled devotion in them. His life was an open book. Though he moved amidst the people of this world, he was supremely detached and lived in the seclusion of the Dargah. Like his father he was deeply interested to carry out extensive construction work in the Dargah. That he could do this with no apparent source of substantial income; has remained a miracle. When questioned about it by those who were genuinely concerned and wanted to know and help, he

would just smile sweetly and say I do not do anything, all is Allah's Karam (grace and mercy). The captivating manners and the enchanting conversation, at once put at ease all the agitations of a fidgety mind. No one could fathom the depth of this ocean of Mercy, love and compassion. True, he had his shares of worldly misfortunes. But even admits the most hopeless situations, he remained supremely unmoved and unperturbed while the storm of calamities unleashed its futile bid to see him crushed and defeated like ordinary mortals. Mian, kept smiling in crisis and thanked Allah and bowed in all humility to His will. He was a true Sufi who could practice effortlessly what he preached to others. Hazrat often used to say that all religions are the streams of the same Fountainhead. All of them teach love, tolerance and fraternity towards all fellow beings. A man of true religion will look upon the whole mankind as his own kith and kin and will serve them with the same spirit. Hazrat will undoubtedly go into the annals of history as one who perfectly symbolised the sacred traditions of the glorious Sect of Sufis. He was a great saint, seer prophet and a man of Allah for all times to come. True to the great traditional established by his ancestors, the present Sajjada Nashin of the Dargah; Hazrat Khwaja Rashid Khanooni has effortlessly stepped in the shoes of his distinguished forefathers. After being educated in different Colleges and Universities, and after acquiring his LLB degree. Hazrat Khwaja Rashid Khanooni went to England to attend to the academic needs of his profession. Many thought that a great heritage had at last been lost. That Mammon had at last prevailed over a man of divine linage. But soon all doubts and apprehensions were put to rest. At Rasm-e-Pagri, performed soon after the death of Hazrat Nazir Nizami, we saw in the young Khwaja, not a sahib of a haughty disposition, but a simple unassuming fakir who had overnight renounced all fame and wealth to lead a life of austerity, devotion and selfless service. Hazrat Rashid Khanooni, has the inspiration of a missionary, vision of seer, zest of a young man, which he is, and the urge of a patriot to uplift the humanity above the narrow domestic walls of caste and creed. He has reorganized the various spiritual activities of the Dargah in an excellent manner and has given them a touch of class and his erudite knowledge. It goes to his credit to organize and edit volumes of spiritual literature in Persian, Arabic and other languages that lied buried in the shelves of Dargah, for the benefit of mankind. The Roohani Academy and Khwaja Sahib Educational Welfare Society founded by his father has made remarkable strides of progress under his able guidance and so have the other activities of the Dargah. From busting activities of London, to the secluded life of a Pir in a Dargah, is indeed a very very long jump. But, with the blessings of his distinguished forefathers, Hazrat Rashid Khanooni has performed these near impossible feet with remarkable ease. May the tribe of Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon Rehmatullah, live long (Ameen) LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF - KHWAJA KHANOON SAHIB Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon

Sahib Shah-e-Willayat was born in 853 Hijri that is In 1434 A. D. in Nagore, a village near Jodhpur (Rajasthan). His ancestors had come from Khurasan and settled there. The real name of Hazrat Khanoon Sahib Sayiduddin, but his father affectionately called him 'Khanoon' and the name stuck, Right from the early boyhood Hzt. Khanoon led an extremely pious and austere life. To serve the parents, to respect the elders and to obey the Pious and the Enlightened were the cherished principles of his life. He was barely fourteen years of age when in the year 1448 A.D he completed his education and got himself enlisted in the Royal Army. It was here that he received the news of his brother Hazrat Badruddin's death. Hzt. Badruddin, who was also in the Royal Army had gone on a haunting expedition along with the king. He had lost his way, when he was waylaid by the robbers and met a martyr's death. On reaching the place of tragedy Khanoon Sahib found that the blood was still oozing out from the wounds of his dead brother and his corpse laid covered with fresh flowers. He performed the last rites of his dead brother and him buried near the grave of a saint. Next day he had a spiritual communion with his brother who informed Khanoon Sahib that the Almighty had blessed him, had given him a place in Heaven. He also apprised Khanoon Sahib about the sacredness of the learned and enlightened saint near whose grave he was buried. All this left a profound and lasting impression on Khanoon Sahib and he began to devote more and more of his time in prayers and meditation. Soon he began to realize the emptiness of life he was hitherto leading. A heavenly voice spoke within him. He was commanded to free himself from all worldly bondages The futility of having any attachment with the ephemeral world appeared to have dawned upon him almost overwhelmingly. He longed to achieve salvation and decided to renounce the entanglements of this world forthwith. He distributed all his belongings amongst the poors and cladding himself in a lone blanket he set out on his holy mission. At the age of twenty-one he become a staunch disciple of Khwaja JalalSufi Hamidduddin Nagori and Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Ajmeri, who happened to be his ancestor from his mother's side. He reached Nagore to pay homage at the Durgah of the great one. Here he also took farewell from his relatives and kinsmen and. thereafter proceeded on foot to Aimer. He took to prayers and penances at Ana-sagar in a cave, situated near the CHILLA of Khwaja Kutub Sahib. At last, as an act of extreme penance he drowned his head and face in the outlet of the water that flowed from the Dargab of Garib Nawar and poured into a pool nearby. Thus forgetting even his very existence he remained there for a long time till Khwaja Garib Nawaz himself appeared to enlighten him. He felt the tender touch of the holy hand over his head and heard the prophetic voice of the holiest, "Khanoon, my child, Allah has ordained you to be His torchbearer from the day you were born. Now get up and present yourself to Khwaja Ismail of Nagore. Be blessed with his profound spiritual benedictions. Go to him, for with your fate

in hand he awaits you at Orcha, Thus awakened from his trance and inspired by the pious utterings of the Gharib Nawaz, Khwaja Khanoon Sahib set out towards Chanderi. However, on reaching his destination, he instead of going directly to Khwaja Ismail, established himself in a cave, for he did not deem it proper to present himself before his teacher till being so commanded by him. In the cave he gave himself up to terrible penances and profound meditation. Years slipped away like this. Thick layers of dust settled on his whole being and many a time hedges grew and dried up on his mud-covered body. At last Khwaja Garib Nawaz had a spiritual communion with Khwaja Ismail and told him how Khanoon Sahib was awaiting his Summons in that cave of Chanderi, "Let him be summoned before you" continued the great seer "Bless him with your introspective knowledge and spiritual wisdom and command him to settle at Gwalior to carry out the work of Allah. The very next day, when the sun had not yet come out of the eastern horizon, Khwaja Ismail ordered his disciples to bring Khanoon Sahib to his presence. On reaching the mountain cave the disciples found Khnnoon Sahtb in a State of complete trance. If he was not mistaken for dead it was because his nails and the hair had grown large. He was bodily lifted along with the dried clay that had accumulated on his whole being, and was brought before Khwaja Ismail in a planquin On seeing him in that state the Holy one loudly called out in his ear "Baba Khanoon", At this sacred command of the blessed sage Khanoon Sahib opened his eyes. He had become alarmingly weak and it took him several days to regain his vitality. However, on becoming normal again, he was summoned before Khwaja Ismail Sahib and on 9th Zilhij" which happen to be a special day of 'Haj'. Khwaja Ismail blessed Khanoon Sahib with all that heavenly wisdom and insight which he himself had imbibed from his father and preceptor. He instructed Khanoon Sahib to first go to Aimer and then to settle at Gwalior to spread out the message of Allah and the gospel of truth and righteousness. THE TEACHINGS OF HAZRAT KHWAJA KHANOON SAHIB R.A. The teachings of Khwaja Khanoon are perfect, philosophical and yet remarkably simple in spirit. The great teacher laid special stress on strict piety and unwavering discipline of mind and other senses. His own life embodied the principles of extreme devotion and supreme renunciation. He firmly believed that spiritual transformation was possible only through Truth, righteousness and soul awakening worship of the Supreme. His own life of rigid austerity and renunciation made him highly respected even among the kings and the nobles. He repeatedly professed that the Highest Good could be achieved by adopting the principles of love and universal brotherhood. The noblest way to serve the Almighty is to serve and enlighten the misguided humanity, even at one's own discomfort. Man should not only love and worship his creator but should also respect all that is pure sacred and truthful. All men are equal, and though they live in separate communal traditions, provinces

and countries and speak different languages, yet they are the creation of one Allah who is Supreme and Omnipotent. SPREAD THE GOSPEL OF LOVE Khanoon Sahib always used to say, 'Spread the Gospel of Love Sing the songs of love and win over this love disillusioned world through that real love which is purifying and wholesome'. Man should always remain firm to the noble principles of his life, he should adopt and practice the laws of nature which he preaches to others. All worldly attachments are ephemeral and unreal. The wise is one who keeps himself aloof with this mirage of life and worship the Supreme Creator, Then he feels indifferent to losses and gains and, conquering the desires arising out of himself he becomes one with Allah. LOVE OF GOD Khwaja Khanoon Sahib always kept himself drowned in the soul illuming bye of Allah. His heart perpetually overflowed with the glory of the Providence. He often pointed out that one, who has experienced even the slightest love for Him, should endeavor to lose himself thoroughly in His remembrance. He should forget everything except Allah and his soul should long for nothing else except His love. As Hazrat Rasulallah SAW (PBUH) has professed: Allah believes them who believe in Him. 'He who is the favorite of Allah is the favorite of all. He who loves the world loses all and he who renounces it gets everything. He who loves this life and this world is foolish and ignorant and he who pines for the kingdom of Heaven is wise and blessed. LIFE OF SECLUSION Khwaja Khanoon Sahib mostly led the life of seclusion that was full of long media-live spells, it was on the dictates of his teacher Khwaja Ismail that he summoned his favorite disciples and entrusted them the work of spreading out the commandments of Allah all over India. Amongst his most noteworthy disciples were Bundagi Shah Nizam, whom historians have praised for his remarkable spiritual achievements, and Sheikh Munawwar Chisti. In 1481 Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon finally settled at Gwalior. The site, where his Dargah Sharif is presently situated is the place where he used to live and meditate and where in the year 1521 he breathed his last to make Heaven his permanent abode. After Khwaja Khanoon Sahib his eldest son Khwaja Bundagi Ahmed became his spiritual Successor. Since then, whenever such necessity arises, the eldest son is privileged to become the 'Gaddi Nashin' The present Gaddi Nashin Harrat Khwaja 'RASHID KHANOONI' who splendidly embodies in himself the ancestral traits of love, humility ardent devotion and selfless dedication is the 13th descendant of Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon. LONG TRADITION OF 500 YEARS More than five hundred years have passed since the magnificent personality of Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon enlightened this Land with his soul awakening preachings. It is a remarkable that during all these long years his teachings have been most ardently followed and professed by numerous disciples. The flame of Eternal Love, profound religious piety and devotion that was lit by the great seer, could not be smothered by time and tribulations. Even today thousands and thousands of people belonging to all

sects, creeds and faiths throng at his Dargah to pay their homage and to get their desires fulfilled with the same abounding reverence and belief which their ancestors must have shown five hundred years ago. THE GREAT INHERITOR OF THE CHISTIS : HAZRAT KHWAJA KHANOON SAHIB R.A. Professor Moulana Abdul Baqui, Editor Payam-e-Watan expressed his feelings about Nazir Mian thus: The true sublimity of EBADAT (attachment to God) as seen in Hazrat goes unparalleled in modern times and is undoubtedly the gist of all spiritual attainments of India. At another occasion Sahib zada Mustehussan Farooqui wrote thus in Payam-e-Musrique, Hazrat has rendered invaluable service in the upliftment of Roohani Academy and Dargah Khwaja Khanoon. Now Roohani Academi is a part of KEWS - Khwaja Shib Education & Welfare Society. He is undoubtedly a great saint and a true prophet of love who radiates the spiritual splendor of his all time great ancestor Hazrat Khwaja Khanoon Shah-e-Wilayat. Religion & World Peace Through the pages of "The Roohani Jagat, I am privileged to throw light on the salient features of all the major religions known to mankind, and also stress the need of religion as a very potent medium of world peace, understanding & brotherhood May the grace of the great Saint Hzt. KHwaja Khanoon Sahib Shah-e-wilayat and his worthy decendants enlighten me to undertake this difficult task successfully. I particularly avoke the blessings of the holy spirit of Hzt. Nazir Nizami who, during his life time, encouraged & inspired me with infinite Patience & love to write on this subject. To begin with, let me stress upon the phenomenal power which religion has always exercised upon mankind as well as the great potentialities that it has, to bring the world back to the path of peace, sanity and mutual understanding. It is a fact that in spite of all advances that we have made in the field of science and technology, religion still exercises a very powerful influence in the minds of millions of human beings. Majority of the people of this worlds belong to one religion or another. Even today, great issues of life are consciously or unconsciously decided against the back ground of religious convictions. Let us also know that all religions preach the reality or one Allah & obedience to His Will, which tends to manifest itself as peace & goodwill amongst men Let us also not forget that sometimes misguided religions passions have become instruments of conflicts and wars at present Terrorism. This has happened whenever religions become confined to narrow mindedness, self-arrgandizement and blind competitive zeal of the fanatics. History is a sad witness of the great crimes which have been committed in the name of religion directly or indirectly by self-proclaimed custodians of religions however the goodness in totality, projected by all religions, has only served us to learn a useful lesson even from these unfortunate acts of the fanatics Thus, these conflicts have only led us to deeper soul searching, a deeper realization of ultimate victory of good over the evil, of Truth over falsehood of Love over violence and of

Tolerance over fanatism As I said earlier, all the religions of the world preach and emphasize the omnipresent Supremacy of Allah. The laws or goodwill & peace among men will therefore, have to play a fuller and more conscious part in shaping their destiny. The world today is on the brink of a terrifying nuclear holocaust and terrorism. We must urgently do something to avert this global suicide of the human race. And to my mind one sure way of doing this is to make people realize & experience the fundamental unity of all religions, to make them understand and appreciate the bewildering similarity or diverse faiths; to enable them to bathe in the cool stream of compassion & love from the fountains of all the great religions of the world and, to have absolute faith in the brotherhood of men & fatherhood of Allah. Roohani Academy (Wing of KEWS) THE ENDEAVOURS OF THE ROOHANI ACADEMY TO WORK FOR A SPIRITUAL CONFLUANCE The members of Roohani Academy representing all religions and faiths welcome the readers to visit the holy Shrine of Hzt. Khwaja Khanoon Sahib which for the last 500 years has served as an

instrument of spiritual integration of divergent creeds. Hazrat Khwaja Khanooa Sahib has been amongst those few religious luminaries of this country who taught mankind to practice renunciation even while fulfilling one's daily course of duties, for which Allah has sent man to this world. His Doctrine of Tarik-ul-Duniya has thus, instead of professing an attitude of escape, preached the gospel of detachment to all unnecessary entanglements of the world that beguile us to our doom, His mode of living was at once simple and meaningful. He combined in his divine teachings the Allah fearing austerity of the Islam, the love and brotherhood of the Christianity and the practice of detached Karma of the Gita. Thus representing all the basic principles of the Holy Quran, he not only adhered to this life but strictly ordered his disciples and descendents to follow the same It has been truly heartening to know that all the spiritual and ancestral decendents of Hazrat have happily stuck to this sacred Command their Preceptor. The present Sajiadanashin, Hazrat Khwaja Rashid Khanooni is indeed a symbol of love, simplicity and detachment personified. In fact the supreme example of self-denial and devoted service to humanity thus set by Hazrat and his decendents, has inspired people of all sects and religions to gather and work for the Roohani Academy and Khwaja Sahib Education and Welfare Society (KEWS), which incorporates and propogites the basic principles of all religions and teaches us that true religion means liveand let live with love and tolerance. it never perrnits us to destroy and defame each other with the hysteria of fanatics as well Terrorism. The present Sajjada Nashin Hazrat Khwaja Rashid Khanooni has taken great pains to collect authentic books on all religions and languages. The Academy is striving hard to translate and circulate the fundamentals of this priceless literature to the people, in the language understandable to them, But this is a difficult task and the resources of the Academy are limited hence its philanthropic endeavor are not carried out the way the Academy wants. The Academy has planned to establish a Research Centre and also start a Library for the benefit of the spiritual aspirants. A Quarterly Magazine 'Roobani Jagat' was regularly published by this body. It has also published for the last five years Souvenirs in Urdu, Hindi and English languages, all containing profound religious thoughts and discourses. Few books out of them we provide on net for convenience of our viewers. The Seminars and "Sufis Symposiums are regularly conducted during the Urs celebrations under the auspecies of the Roohani Academy and are quite helpful to its mission.
